    Not correct. The Republicans only had ~40% of the congress and zero power to stop anything. It was the Blue Dog DEMOCRATS that have been opposing Obama. They are the ones that were blocking health reform and opposed single payer. They also demanded Obama write an XO forbidding the funds be used for abortions.

    Obama had problems these last two years, but those problems existed *within* his own party, since many Dems are quite conservative & not agree with Obama's agenda.

    What the hell are you talking about? The FCC is part of the national government, and it's your *local* city or county government that gave Comcast a monopoly. Wakeup man. We live in a federalist system which means power lies at different levels.

    You can't blame the national FCC for something controlled locally. Go to your townhall meeting and bitch at them about the monopoly they've created.

    Net neutrality is not about outside ISPs. It's about the local monopoly ISP not blocking your access to sites they don't like - such as rushlimbaugh.com or netflix.com

    Instead of fighting Republicans, the FCC should just re-designate the internet lines as "phone lines" and apply existing common carrier rules.

    Maybe they just haven't learned to shut-up. I have. I got tired of being modded "troll" whenever I made a "Apple acts no better than microsoft" or similar comment. Apple Fanboys have mod points and they use them to censor people that criticize their Holy Relics or messiah.

    BTW:

    (1) The store has a photocopier. I would have asked for a copy of the contract else: No sale.
    (2) Contracts are not binding if they violate State or Union law. You can not sign your rights or legally-protected privileges away. Paypal discovered that earlier this decade when the judge nullified most of their Terms of Service, and then ordered them to repay all the money they had stolen from customers w/o due process.

    It's like reading a Tobacco Company study showing how cigarettes are healthy.

    That too includes tons of citations, but mostly self-references or paid consultants. A biased study is no more useful than a lie. A true study would link to the relevant portions of the 1996 Telecommunications Act which demand fiber optics be put in place. Of course no such study exists because the 1996 TA has no provision like that.

    Google's also censored "The Obama Deception" which was basically a video about how the president (and previous one too) were puppets of the real power behind the scenes.

    Google pulled it because "criticism of the president is now allowed on youtube". It violates their community standards (or so they claim). Those of you who consider this "okay" have to open your eyes and realize Google is no more trustworthy than MS or Apple or any other megacorp.

    Google's already learned one Fortune 500 (or comcast or ms or...) tactic:

    - censorship - both in Google News and Youtube - of the media company called Prison Planet (aka alex jones radio & videos). They used to appear in google news searches, but as of sunday, it's as if prisonplanet.com doesn't even exist. And on youtube the entire account was suspended simply because Jones shared a wikileaks video (the soldiers shooting journalists/children). Same video NBC, FOX, etc have.

    Google is being a good steward to make sure only NBC, FOX, other megacorps control the media message, while lesser media is disappeared where they were once visible.

    I certainly didn't. We spent a ridiculously-long amount of time learning about the 1800s robber barons, how evil the free market is, and how the government created Antitrust law to punish them. And not much else.

    Good point.

    And also you wouldn't need dozens of lines. Just one bundle of fiber could provide 25-50 strands, and with that same number of companies. We could have true choice for home-owners but it would require the government to lay those 25-50 strand cables and no city or county seems willing to do it. They enjoy the kickbacks they get for maintaining the Comcast monopoly.

    I'd rather arrest and try the president (current and past), the congress, the various unelected administrators, et cetera. They have committed FAR more crimes than that one person who fed documents to wikileaks.

    Also it's pretty clear the Japanese never cared about limiting killing to just deaths. They killed lots of civilians during the war. It's a bit hypocritical for the Japs to criticize us for killing innocents in fire-bombings, when they killed about ten times that amount during the war. The name "Rape of Nanking" isn't just a colorful expression.

    The Japanese could have easily avoided those casualties. With one simple act. Don't attack the State of Hawaii. Every Japanese death from bombs was a direct result of that one stupid decision, therefore they have no one to blame but themselves.

    As for wikileaks:

    "If you have nothing to hide, you shouldn't mind cops searching your car, or your homes, or monitoring your internet/cellphone usage." - Congresscritters and presidents. Well the wheel has turned, has it not, and now WE are spying on you..... if you have nothing to hide Mr. Representative then you should not be fearful.

    It appears Google is "gaming" the results.

    They are now blocking infowars or prisonplanet.com from appearing in search results (unless you directly request it), and then they suspended that Radio Show's account for two weeks so there will be no more audio or video uploads allowed (to youtube).

    Google - the new MSN.

    I said "near" monopoly and 80% or higher certainly qualifies. In the U.S. 80% is high enough to amend the highest law of the land - the constitution. 80% was high enough to break-up Standard Oil and ATT.

    NOT a free market. These are government-created monopolies. Also natural monopolies (like the phone/electric companies). They need to be strictly-regulated, including having to ask permission to raise prices.

    Not really. Not if Comcast is using a Per GB rate, which means netflix/video streaming users would pay more than those of us just reading slashdot/email.

    This obscure reference just went over 99% of Americans' government-educated heads.

    "Danegeld" refers to the gold paid by the English monarchy to stop the Danish and Norway Vikings from raiding towns along the east coast of Britannia. I forget the exact date, but somewhere around 800-900 A.D. Many of the Vikings then set-up permanent villages in this area while collecting their tribute.

    They only lost 1/2 a million - or about 0.4% of total US households.

    Comcast is hardly in trouble. BTW a lot of those cusomters are moving to Free TV (antenna). Why pay for something that is transmitted-to-air, and now with Digital TV there are 2-3 times more channels than under the old analog system. I get 40+ of them in my area - all free.
