  1. Tech support for family on Family Tech Support · · Score: 1

Providing tech support for family members always leaves me feeling empty. When I had my professional support job, I could always hold on to that warm disgruntlement I would have after applying my technical wizardry to solve a problem (read: rebooting, showing someone how to click their mouse, unconscious nodding of the head to show my understanding).

Not so with family though. I once mistakenly let out an irritated groan at my mother's request to help her with the family computer. There is no greater power on this world than a mother's ability to invoke guilt. It just takes the fun right out of the job.

Purple Motion, one of the musicians from Future Crew, also did the music for a racing game titled Death Rally. Nowadays, I think he does a little of everything from game music to side projects for himself.

  3. Re:idm on Put The Demoscene In Your DVD Player · · Score: 1

On the same topic, lots of old scene musicians have released a bunch of CD projects throughout the years.

    Necros (Alpha Conspiracy)
    Scorpik and Falcon (Aural Planet)
    Jester (Oddjob)
    Dr. Awesome(Bjorn Lynne)
Probably lots more that I can't think of (MD, Muffler, CNCD).

It's interesting that the more experimental demoscene artists, Dune (Brothom States on Warp) and Karl/KFMF (Bogdan Raczynski on Rephlex) have caught more attention though. Obviously, someone at Warp is paying attention to demoscene music artists.

  4. Re:list of demos on Put The Demoscene In Your DVD Player · · Score: 1

All of the demos listed as on the DVD are worthy. I spent the early to mid 90s in the demoscene as a enthusiast, organizer, and a dabbler in music, so finding out about this was a pleasant surprise.

It's still interesting that all but one of the demos, or atleast I'm fairly sure, were made by European groups. The exception being Amnesia by Renaissance, a US group. It was such an interesting community, then and now, I'm surprised it never took shape outside of Europe.

The compilation looks excellent, as it should be since it was formed by _the_ demoscene organizing and maintainance group, Hornet. I can only think of one demo from the oldschool category that didn't make it to the DVD but should have. That being Ninja 2 by Lemon which was the first impressive and entertaining cartoon animated demo to be released on the PC. I'm still geeked about receiving this in the mail though.

Jedi Master, Yarael Poof.... i.e. - the guy with the 6 foot long neck. On the following Star Wars bio page, apparently his weapon of choice is the lightsaber indeed. Maybe he has some sort of neck harness that wields the blade.

I don't know what country you're commenting about as far as the Unreal Tournament tourney is concerned. If you're talking about USA gamers, then the list is fairly accurate as far as "elite gamers" is concerned.

The Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament competitions are a pure 1 vs. 1 format. Clans (gaming teams) have nothing to do with this since this isn't a teamplay competition.

The Quake 3 field looks pretty strong with Zero4 who won over $50,000 US dollars in the past year just from playing games. He won CPL's Babbages event and Id Software's annual Quakecon tournaments.

Someone mentioned the CPL in another post. They are actually holding a major gaming event of their own this coming weekend, the CPL world championship. It's a Counterstrike event with about $100,000 in total prize money.

Gamers or anyone else with freakish curiosity can check the CPL event by going here.

  7. super tecmo bowl on Up, Up, Down, Down: Part Four · · Score: 1

Beyond Quake 1's multiplayer madness, this was easily the most addictive game I've ever played. When I was a kid, Super Tecmo Bowl brought me hours upon hours of stat building insanity and what seemed like infinite amount of multiplayer seasons with friends. I must have played around 50 or so _full_ seasons of this game before I finally got a bit weary of it. It seems like a total waste of time now, but it was fun, so oh well :>. Bo Jackson owns.

Well, I don't know if the console companies corporate greed turned me off from this movie. I think the part of The Wizard where video game master gone bad, 'Lucas', comes onto Fred Savage's babe with a power glove did it for me. "I've got the power glove. IT'S SO BAD."
