" Intel actually already pushes their chips to max safe speed so that they can make the most money"
This is a false assumption. Intel actually takes chips rated for 450, and marks them as 300, because they need to justify a lower price-point to compete with AMD on the low-end. That was the whole point of the Celeron line, if you recall the original Celeron, it had NO cache, and sucked. The new Celeron has on-die cache, and is no different from the PII you would spend $300 on.
If a smart enduser can figure out how to squeeze his cut-rate 300 to 450, and screw intel in the process, then more power to them.
"PIIs are already run hotter than any chip out there. Hell. I'll put money on the fact that in a couple of years, people with PIIs will: 1. have to buy new motherboards to support the PIII or P4. 2. have to junk their system cause the chip is fried out. "
1. I read somewhere that the core voltage requirement of the PIII (really just a PII with KNI) is such that a PII mobo won't support it. 2. Hasn't this been the standard in the Intel world for years?
"I could put a rocket engine on a Yugo and it would go faster than any other car out there, but it'd still be a p.o.s."
nt4sp4, NS 4.5. Nothing in either my TEMP or my TMP directory. Of course, I clean these out daily with a scheduled batch file. Too much goop accumulates in there. . . (also, tmp files in \WINNT).
How about using Yahoo mail (browser based) - you can see mail messages as plaintext in the cache directory.
hm. I'm not a Linux zealot. I'm a Macintosh zealot. and reading some of these leaked eMemos that were sent around by MS's upper managment kind of pisses me off.

If you have pride in your employer, then why don't you change carreers to something a bit more lucritive like the Mafia - sounds like you'd have little ethical difficulty with that.
the only thing I'm worried about is if it screws up future software updates, etc.
You know, installers that look for certain dll versions, etc. tho the OS runs fine now, it could be trouble down the road. Good thing I don't rely on 98.
"ALL its APIs for all versions of Windows (inc W2K) publicly available and free to use for any purpose" - -
this would be impossible to enforce. Who would be able to go through MS' source trees and make sure that it's all "available", and properly documented?
Screw that shit. Just put them all in jail for life, from Bill Gates to the Janitors.
I think Ballmer and Gates would be busy stamping out license plates. (should).
In any case, if you split MS into two separate units (apps and OS), where the f_ck do you draw the line?
Who gets Notepad.exe - the OS unit or the Apps unit? Who gets Explorer.exe, the OS unit or the Apps unit?
And how the heck are you supposed to define that in a long-term-enforceable legal document so that it will cover any possible future new product ideas?
Hm. I wonder if all the air can leak out the improperly sealed hatch quicker than the proper locking protocol can be transmitted from the gateway machine to the hatch control mechanism over 10base2.
Yes, but as a doctor, after prolonging your cancer patient's life and agony, letting him die slowly of a wasting disease, you can go make a down payment on a new Mercedes.
The other guy might be able to keep up with the payments on his Escort like the rest of us.

in 5-10 years, bandwidth and storage will be such that it will be just as economical to trade in stolen.aiff files as.mp3 today, and no loss in sound quality.

Always clear your cache.

If Microsoft were up to HALF the shit that some of the emails that have been leaked imply they are, I'd be embarrassed too.
Maybe they've cut off your air-supply, or knifed your baby. . .
hey, didn't UNIX rip-off Telnet and FTP from Windows95?
. . . thank you Mr. Barkto.
DHTML is just hashed-over JavaScript.
Buzzz!
Wrong, try again.
Don't teach your kids programming.
Teach them math, and they'll feel the urge to learn programming eventually. Programming should be a means to an end, not an end.

The idea is fundamentally whacked.
would be a cheap box with a bunch of simm slots in it, so I could finally put all those old 72-pin simms I have to good use.
I must have a couple of gigs worth of 4meg 72-pin simms that would make a wicked-ass RAM drive.
Great idea!

How would you like additional taxes on tobacco?
Smokers are complete idiots, so make them pay $5/pack.
How about people who drive too slow in the left-hand lane? Pull 'em over, write 'em a ticket!
How about people who post to
Tin cans and string then! Definately no need for EM sheilding there!

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. . .
Fiber is faster, and doesn't need to be sheilded from EM interference, and is way sexy, technologically speaking. what were they thinking, indeed?

rough quote from the new testament;
If you do not forgive, you will not be forgiven.
Forgiveness is THE CENTRAL THEME to the Chrisian religion. If you call yourself a Christian, maybe you ought to go read the bible just once.
