Not always, channellized voice grade T1's tire share 24 conventional phone lines onto one wire which requires more than a standard alligator clipped connection with a lineman's friend box.
One point that I feel needs to be made is that AOL users getting baraged with ads when the first sign on are not seeing HTML based ads.
The AOL host, as the call it, uses a markup language called "rainman"(makes you wonder if Steve Jobs is a People's Court fan) and not HTML
Also, from what I've seen, AOL's other properties such as netscape.com and spinner.com don't make use of popup ads. Instead using in-page side bar ads and the like.
Having a CDR/CDRW as STANDARD part of the system would make the floppy obsolete. Until then being able to make a up a quick and dirty boot disk for your OS of choice isn't something you can do without a floppy. So I for see the need for the tried and true, however ageing floppy sticking around for quite a while.

I do see to remember seeing something about a guy porting the Linux kernel to the dreamcast...if that's possible then why not to a PS2?...Based on that you could then make a cluster of systems and have a very powerful super computer on your hands. I know it's a bit of a jump in thinking but when you take into account that off the shelf computer components aren't easily obtainable over there such a hack very well could be attempted.
Umm... Doesn't Al Gore have prior art on inventing the internet?
1. Get FPGA Prototype
2. Imagine a Beowulf cluster of them
3. ???
4. Profit and note that in Soviet Russi, the PCB prototypes you!
I tend to think that Sun Microsystems backing gnome is an indication that Gnome does have a nice share.
What's Debian's status in this matter?
