Most people in my office barly know how to find the document they just saved, let alone use any "advanced" features. I bet most people in my building wouldn't even know the difference between OO and Office except for the lack of a talking paper clip.
your point is valid, except with OSS any company, large or small, can contract out a programmer to fix the problem. Then you have much more control over the fix and the end product also. A company doesn't have to rely on a central bureaucracy to get around to fixing it. And you don't have to be IBM either.
Would you rather buy a car that has a horrible crash test record, is easy to break into, but looks really cool and has power steering. Or get a free car that you can pay someone, (or get for free, or learn) to modify exactly how you want it. Obviously different companies and different users have different needs.

I could be wrong here, but with Kazaa I dont think you can see the individual IP addresses, only the IP addresses from Kazaa.
I say this because my on my cheesy fire-wall software I only had to create rules for three IP addresses, and I am never prompted by my fire-wall for permission again. So all the Kazaa connections are coming from these IP addresses. Am I wrong?
If its possible in you're office, you can set the hard drive quota to 4KB or something comparable so that the users will not be able to save to their local hard drive. Then take away the privledge for the user to change their quota size. This doesnt work in all situations, but its something to consider.
Another good indie band that has all their recorded songs (3) available for download. They gave me a free CD at their show too. I have probably paid over $50 to see them live numerous times, not counting the alcohol I consumed while at the shows. I think indie bands should get a commission off beer. no?
Well i didnt cancel my service. I didnt even visit the FAQ on how to cancel. But I did put autoresponders on both my yahoo emails telling people I no longer use yahoo email and why. I no longer use there services. I used to use them for almost everything. To look up music, real estate, cars, weather, news, yellow pages. Its too bad, i used to love yahoo.
Just because the state claims its illegal doesnt make it immoral. I believe the current form of media control is horrible, therefore I don't feel the need to uphold laws made just to protect those in control. Communication and file distribution is at the point where we don't need the middle man, the huge recording company with the distribution channels. All the music that I really enjoy I didnt hear on the radio or MTV, but on message boards and muscian's websites, or taking a chance and downloading a band i never heard of. We could be paying the artist directly, and that is the way it should be done.
I would pay.25 for an MP3 if I could download the whole album and find every song the band ever produced! That would be sweet. A lot of the bands i enjoy, its hard to find a lot of their songs on a P2P program.
And then there is ticketmaster.... just kill the beast!
Good Filter? Yahoo filter's at least 80% of my spam. Sometimes it does too good of a job and filters ads I have actually signed up to receive. Hotmail barly filters 50% and I get at least 3 times the amount of spam, and I hardly ever give out my hotmail account.
Why do they have smog warnings then in some cities? Who cares about the ozone when it hurts to breath the air. Tell people that suffer from asthma not to worry about pollution.
my first thought was that they were human/robot hybrids, thats why they still retained the human shape. I never once suspected aliens and was suprised to find that my Mom thought that the whole time. It seemed pretty obvious to me. Although I cannt see why Speilberg would use that type of body, which is so associated with aliens.
I have had nothing but problems with Telocity/Rhythems. They are friendly, but seem very clueless. It has been 5 months since I ordered my service and Rhythems has been here 5 times, each time clueless that they had been here before. i tell them the same thing "Ameritech has not been here yet."
I know most of the trouble is really because Ameritech is full of a bunch of liars, but Telocity has been very bad in dealing with it. I switched last week to a new provider and I will wait to see if they can install my line.
One of the great things about Linux is that you can get the latest release as soon as it comes out, for free. Instead of waiting four years for one comany to release an upgrade that you have to pay hundreds to upgrade to. It seems to me that Linux is set to improve at a much faster rate then Windows ever could, to the direct benefit of the user.
The new Psion handhelds are pretty cool. They come with a web browser and email software. I can read any webpage I could with my desktop, just fewer lines at a time (and B&W). The keyboard is awesome for the size of it. I can type almost as fast as a normal sized keyboard. And it fits in my pockets.
But you do need a cell phone to connect to the internet when a landline isnt available. It would be cool if you could access the web from anywhere with just the PDA, but I suppose we are some years from that.
However, what if your only device (PDA/cellular/mp3 player all in one) stops working? Is stolen?
Batteries die? All of these functions are lost at once.
Isnt that why people back up their palms?
The one has to free the original to start a new zion. This zion will be ready for the appearance of the next one. And so the cycle continues.

I completely agree. The current model sucks for both the listener and the musician.

Why dont we just get off the ground...

So you are saying whatever a company does is ok as long as it provides jobs?
thats sounds great!
There should only be one company tha makes everything and employs everyone. Who cares if they control all forms of speech too!
