Males have a much greater chance of success in almost every field of life. I would suspect that this may be a reason for prospective parents to select boys rather than girls. It may not be a selfish decision based on the child's potential to support his or her parents in old age, but may instead be based on that child's chances of success and happiness.
Ducks tend to be smallish and squishy. You might want to consider trading up - something large and threatening, like a swan, would probably provide better protection.
