They are the official reference codecs provided by Xiph Foundation. These are used on every Android device and in every Linux distribution. Most software that will process FLAC or Ogg uses these libraries too.
They are easily the most commonly used implementations.
Whoever wrote that article has probably never used an SSD in real life.
Use a regular HDD for everyday work for half a year. Install and remove apps, edit and archive photos, organize your music library. After half a year it will take forever to start recently installed or updated apps and the whole system will feel so slooooowww...
SSD speed also degrades over time (though due to other reasons), but not as heavy as regular HDDs. In real life, I didn't notice any slowdown after half a year of using my SSD now. A difference like black and white compared to regular HDDs.
This could probably be implemented easily using Reiser 4 metadata.
Simply write a tool that allows to set TTL for FS objects like folders and files and stores it as metadata. Then create a Reiser 4 plug-in that checks the metadata and deletes files that are outdated.
Directories should carry a default TTL value for files put into them. For example/etc,/bin,/lib,/sbin would keep all data forever,/var/tmp would be cleaned after one day, your home directory could forget data when it's not accessed for one year etc.
However, I think I prefer having all my data kept until I delete it personally.;)
OSS does not mean there's no Copyright on the code! The developers do not lose their Copyrights by releasing their code under an Open Source license. You are granted all the rights that are stated in the license. If the developers gave up their Copyright, you could do anything you want with that software.
1) I'm leading some Open Source projects and contributed to others. This engagement in the Open Source scene has got me some jobs in closed source business, 'cause I could advertise for myself and refer to my Open Source projects as references for my skills. There's also quite a good chance I wouldn't have my current job without these projects.
2) Another point is that if you write a software and want to sell it how do people know it even exists? I think releasing the software as Open Source under the GPL and selling commercial use licenses lets everybody profit from your work.
3) I plan to bundle optional closed source components with my free software in the future. If other developers want to use the functionality provided by these components in their own software, they have to obtain a license.

I guess I just know too many dumb people who keep clicking on every "Wicked Screensaver" attachment;-)
Wow, wasn't the subtitle something like 'Programming Style Guidelines'? This must be some bad example to show how not to do it. Something like 'if ((bp->m_size -= size) == 0)' is really bad style!
I haven't read the book, but if this is the authors understanding of 'good style' then it's definitely not worth reading.
And Opus use which container format? Hint: It starts with an O and ends in gg.
The Ogg performance improvements will speed up Opus decoding too (and save battery life when playing Opus on your mobile device).
And FLAC is lossless while Opus is not. So FLAC is the better choice for archival.
It's the other way around. Vorbis is the audio format and Ogg is the container.
Ogg is also used for Opus, Speex, Theora, Daala and sometimes FLAC. All of these will benefit from the performance improvement in Ogg.

Maybe you should read the whole post you linked to...
It's not FUD, sadly...
So you can't see what pages are on the list, but if you happen to link to one you pay $11,000 per day...

Oh, I read the headline as: IBM and AMD Create First 22nm _SPAM_ Cell

Yo! Here in Germany it's just around 40%. 30% all over Europe.

It's legal in the US, but not in Germany.
In Germany photographs/videos of adults who look like children performing sexual activities are considered child porn.
Don't know about other countries.

No, he ows the copyright, so he can do with it whatever he wants - including to start a commercial fork.
Others could not do that, but the copyright owner can!

NULL is usually defined in stddef.h and it's defined as ((void*)0) for C and as (0) for C++.
'ptr == NULL' is perfectly valid in both C and C++.

Didn't anyone notice this was released as part of GNOME 2.8?
Wow, wait! GNOME 2.8 is out? Jeez...!
It's in the CVS: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/wix/wix/
I already posted on Rob Mensching's blog, that he should release the code as a ZIP package, too.
