The name I forgot to mention, which describes my point exactly, is 'Wintel':
Wintel is a portmanteau of Windows and Intel. It usually refers to a computer system or the related ecosystem based on an Intel x86 compatible processor and running the Microsoft Windows operating system. It is sometimes used derisively to describe the monopolistic actions undertaken by both companies when attempting to dominate the market.

GPU drivers have always lagged behind in stability for the Linux world, I had to compile Intel drivers 2 years ago when my GPU was just released.
Seeing as GPU manufacturers mainly used to support Windows and Mac, probably due to contracts between them, to attract cross-over clients. There was no such incentive for *nix back then.
It's nice that Intel picked up this ball, but this outdated driver issue just shows us how the process is still not streamlined, and on track with their [Intel's] hardware releases.
As a personal observation, I think the increasing popularity of Linux distros, notably (but not exclusively!) Ubuntu will improve and speed this process up too:-)
Some times a scenario slips through, like testing on a machine without the required dependencies, or on a low-privileged user account, against a different versioned data source, or on a box that was used in last week's ritualistic goat sacrifice.
The "but it works on my machine" syndrome is a common occurrence.
OTOH that article has plenty potential, but Macworld editors seem to think that slide show presentations make it easy. No they don't. I'm likely to not play the TFA's clickfest to the end.
It also ticks me off how they redesign these existing practices, to the point where they stop making sense, and you have to relearn the new and better (read: rephrased) technology. Almost like they want you to rewrite all those tests...

Yes there is definitely some escapism involved, the same goes for eating (as some do when depressed) and drinking liquor.
Most things that stimulate our senses could be fixated on as means to escape our reality temporarily.
Mind drugs on the other hand, accentuate our thoughts and forces us to deal with what's inside our skulls, albeit in a very different perspective, and usually with a very giddy gait!
Anyone who has at least a few months of hallucinogenic experiences, would instantly know that its not at all impossible for animals to want to experiment with psychoactives.
It may not be a proven scientific fact, but it does become common sense, as your eyes are opened to the world in ways you never thought existed, like the relationship between your brain and the chemicals that affects your perception of reality and time.
I guess it is harder to imagine the want of such unique perspectives, without having such an experience yourself.
I'm not a big gamer anymore, but Machinarium took me back to adventure game days! I played till the end. The quality of details is stunning, with attention to each character's actions, puzzles and the rich environments. The complete soundtrack is no exception!
I can imagine hanging laundry in public view will encourage people to wear nicer and prettier underwear too! Obviously this Japanese woman is embarrassed about her bad taste:P
Mozilla’s Melissa Shapiro just informed us that the page we are linking to is a “staged” download page. She noted that the link currently points to unreleased builds. Typically, Mozilla does not enable this particular download page until the final version of a new Firefox 4 Beta is available and we noticed that this Beta installs just as other Betas did. However, if you want to be certain that you download the final Beta 8, we advise our readers to wait until the final build is made available.
You need to use the links in TFA to the direct download page. There doesn't seem to be Linux link either.
"Man dismembered by electrocution in freak urinal accident"
You're very right about the FUD there.

Agreed, Bravo to Peter! This took lots of time, patience and drive to accomplish, regardless if the data came from his own telescope or not. Hats off!
I made the sacrifice for the greater good: I dropped many games to move over, but at the same time I discovered many new and fantastic games!
I support the game developers, the more support they get, the more and better games there will be!

Is that like getting a root canal, before having an extraction done on the same tooth? Ouch.

real men just upload their important stuff on ftp, and let the rest of the world mirror it
FTFY
It worries me that:
1] Normal people love this kind of thing and will flock to any kind of social dating setup
2] It is a good way to catalog and profile all these people, with personal, contact, and now biometric details.
I'm sure its fine, yes it will all be fine . . .
I can't find the Linux install [ducks and covers]
+1 for this. I have family who will benefit from this :-)
asking the user to download a _fake_ Flash player
Nope not flash, it's fake. It's really an obscured PDF viewer.

It's been over 3 years now, without any craving or long term effects, after 3 years frequent use.
In retrospect, the visuals of me programming my brain, and the world around me, can't be matched by any multimedia experience, ever! :-)

In some places, like Naples, it is common to hang your laundry outside in public view. Naples is one of the oldest cities in the world.
I can imagine hanging laundry in public view will encourage people to wear nicer and prettier underwear too! Obviously this Japanese woman is embarrassed about her bad taste :P
Pic or it didn't . . . oh, nevermind!

My theory is that it was because so many people got pissed off at GA incorrectly marking them as illegal, and causing trouble for many folks.
40% of US residents believe in creationism. What are you going to say to them, huh?
"Creating man and women incapable of evil is the act of a worthy God"? :-D
Oh man, that just sent me on a 45 minute xkcd diversion. I love being on holiday! :-D
