  1. Four Words: Micros~1 Systems Management Console on Linux Blamed for DDoS Attacks · · Score: 1

Using SMB or FTP and Microsoft's SMC/SMS (or even BO2K for that matter) you can accomplish exactly the same thing. But it's even worse because once you get into a domain administrator's account on an NT box, you can just step right into every other box in that domain and do as you damn well please.

At lease UNIX has the concept of security, so if you break into one box, that's very likely the only box you have available to you. In the Micros~1 world, if you break into one box, you potentially have the entire NT domain by the nuts! Good going Micros~1!

Grass, eh? Did he mention whether it would be a dime bag or a sixty dollar bag?

Delphi was one of the only reasons I really didn't want to leave the Windows world and spend all of my time working in UNIX.

Object Pascal is a great language, I'd place it in league with Java as far as code prettyness and functionality, and Delphi is an incredible IDE, far better than the GPL/Pascal compilers that I've played with, including FPC386.

If they get it running on Linux, I'm all over it like a filthy whore!

  6. Slashdot Moderators aren't too bright on Lego Machine Gun · · Score: 1

Slashdot moderators need to start looking at timestamps on responses. If someone asks a question and two people reply with exactly the same answer at almost exactly the same time, then I would hardly call that redundant.

Now if I had answered ten minutes later after reading all of the responses, then moderate me down and ruin my karma, otherwise don't be such an ass and mess with my karma you bastards!

Taco, FIX THIS! A double mod of Redundant is redundant and as such the moderators should lose karma points at the same time.

Generally probation is reserved for a company's management team and not the general population of its employees. Because ESR is part of VA's board, he's restricted from any stock activity, but if Alan is only a 'lowly' Red Hat employee then he'd be free to do as he pleases.

Maybe he'll send me a sack of cash in the mail?!

Intelligent?!?! Well-educated?!?! This is spillage from Segfault, my friend! You're lucky we're not hearing about Natalie Portman's Clit. Mae Ling Mak, Lacey Chabert, and Drew Barrymore completely naked and petrified! Obi Harry Kenobi is completely bored and wants us to have fun along with him!

The only way to get rid of them is to force Segfault to reactivate comments, voting, and write-ins! Then the world will be a better place.

And while we're at it... What's all this fascination with Natalie Portman anyway? Her head is waaaay too big for her body! I suppose if she were turned to stone, one would be able to chisel a bit of it off, but really, why go through the trouble?

  10. Phoenix BIOS and Crusoe don't mix on Phoenix BIOS Software Available for Crusoe · · Score: 3

The Transmeta Crusoe processor is supposed to run at much lower power consumption levels than normal CPUs. As a result, the heat generated by one of these processors is significantly lower than its competition. To use the Phoenix BIOS defeats this significant advantage.

I've been to Phoenix, in July mind you, and I can safely say that Phoenix is way too hot to allow adequate operating temperatures for the Transmeta Crusoe processor.

Sorry guys, I think you need to choose your business partners with a lot more forethought.

  11. Here's an idea! on InterNIC Blowing Up (again) · · Score: 1

Quick, somebody register all of the famous domains that are claiming to be not registered!!

Seriously though, some machine at internic.net is just being slow (Slashdot Effect??). I managed to get slashdot.org's and microsoft.com's registration information out of it..

Interestingly enough, by posting an article about their machines being messed up, we're messing them up more. The Slashdot Effect can be a destructive force, you know...
