Right, we all know that A) women don't watch porn and B) Pornhub is dominated by comments of women saying "this porn is awful!"

Sure, as long as you define "universal appeal" as "things that appeal to men."

Still - women don't seem to feel the need to go trash-talk shows that are designed to appeal to men. (See the figure entitled: "Men are more likely to give the crappiest rating").

  9. You mean other than short-range non-uniformity in the Mersenne Twister (perhaps the most commonly used quality PRNG), which this thread of comments is about?

Right? Slashdot commenters are always looking for the next story to be outraged by.

  12. Well sure, if you're fine with your simulation being rate-limited by /dev/random.

Affordable hardware entropy sources output on the order of hundreds of kbps, which is, you know, abysmally slow for the amount of calls that are required for meaningful simulation. Without hardware entropy sources (remember, many of these are running on grad students' laptops), using 'true' randomness drops from "embarrassingly" to "unusably" slow.

  17. Protip: The reason you're uncomfortable with being labeled "cis" is likely because you're transer than you think. Most cis people don't spend much time wondering if they're trans. http://amitransgender.com/

  18. TERFs intentionally generalize violence committed by cis men to "violence committed by males", insist that trans women are male, and make the unfounded conclusion that trans women are as likely to commit violence against cis women as cis men are.

Sexual violence (by men) doesn't come from the penis - it comes from the social conditioning that men are taught, particularly the conflation of violence with masculinity, male dominance, and male sexuality.

  19. I'll just ask everyone around me what gender they perceive me as before I enter the bathroom, then? "Hey y'all, sorry to interrupt your meal, could I get your attention please? I need to use the bathroom and I just need a show of hands - men's or women's?"

I just hope the people already in the bathroom agree with the people outside, so that they don't holler at me when I walk in.

  20. Only if you were born in NC, and it's not an automatic process either way.

Some states do not ever allow you to amend your birth certificate. Some states allow you to amend your birth certificate without surgery. (And the rules depends on who issued the birth certificate, not what state you currently live in).
