The Magnetic Core Memory article on Wikipedia states that the technology dates from 1949. I guess that makes this the oldest piece of computer technology that's been "rediscovered".
"Jython is an implementation of the high-level, dynamic, object-oriented language Python written in 100% Pure Java, and seamlessly integrated with the Java platform. It thus allows you to run Python on any Java platform."
This means you can even run python on a palm pilot or a cell phone.
jython code can even be compiled into java bytecode (*.class files)
As seen on Where to Buy on the above mentioned site.

Checking with my spamassassin filter, I see that it's bayesian filter is happy with 1,868,996 pieces of spam, and 386 pieces of ham (the good stuff, stuff I want to keep).
I get maybe 1 spam thru to my normal inbox a month. Which I happily feed to the sa-learn tool (spamassassin's bayesian learning tool).
I don't need any wacky products installed in my email client (which I change often). I access my email via imap over ssl. I use mozilla mail mostly, but have used mutt, outlook, pine, outlook express, kmail, and a large amount of others (that I've forgotten about now), all with spamassassin running happily on the mail server churning thru all incoming email.
our mail server handles 4000-10,000 pieces of email a day for all our accounts, and spamassassin barely registers as a 'blip' on our cpu usage radar.
It's really sweet.
Oh yeah, I've had only 1 false positive, and it was due to a wise-ass friend that decided to send a piece of conversational email disguised as spam from a new email address./* ---- */
At least the VIN isn't machine readable at the moment.
Wonder how long it will take before someone applies the US Postal Service's high speed Zip Code OCR technology with high resolution freeway cameras, and suddenly, they can read the VIN of every passing car, truck, and van.
Course, those theme park stickers, parking stickers, fast food wrappers would be blocking the view. Would that qualify as a circumvention device?

"Advanced encryption WinZip 9.0 supports 128- and 256-bit key AES encryption, which provide much greater cryptographic security than the traditional Zip 2.0 encryption method used in earlier versions of WinZip.
WinZip 9.0's advanced encryption (FIPS-197 certified) uses the Rijndael cryptographic algorithm which, in 2001, was specified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) Publication 197 as the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).
After a three-year competition, the AES was announced by NIST as an approved encryption technique for use by the U.S. government, private businesses, and individuals. When properly implemented as a key component of an overall security protocol, the AES permits a very high degree of cryptographic security, yet is fast and efficient in operation.
WinZip's AES encryption is just as easy to use as traditional Zip 2.0 encryption: all you have to do is select the encryption strength and specify your password.
Note: recipients to whom you send AES-encrypted Zip files must have a compatible Zip file utility in order to decrypt the files. At this time, WinZip 9.0 is required. We have, however, published the full specification for creating WinZip-compatible AES-encrypted Zip files, and we expect that other Zip file utility vendors will provide support for the format. "
Funny, it sounds like either they already reverse engineered the pkware zip encryption, or established their own encryption.
I wonder how many times users will complain to company xyz (that is using pkware encryption for their products) about their files not working in winzip, before company xyz will drop their pkware proprietary encryption in favor of winzip's published (and functional) encryption.

Java is a general purpose programming language, PHP is not. PHP is a scripting language designed for server side web scripting. Ever tried writting a server in PHP? You can't, it doesn't let you accept incomming socket connections.

// first we must to create a socket which will be used to listen // a connection (0 mean protocol type - TCP) $mysock = socket_create(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, 0);
// now bind call a port (20000) with a socket on 127.0.0.1 address socket_bind($mysock, "127.0.0.1", 20000);
// accepting conenctions on a socket and port socket_accept($mysock);
// using socket_listen we can specify how much connections we will to accept socket_listen($socket, 10);

A bit big for today's technology tho.

Here's a real world example of the technique described by cmosses.

This technique makes your site very search engine unfriendly. Can't really index it, can it? Sorta like a Flash-only sites.
Actually, SUN doesn't even know.
Check out their download page url.

Check out the of the page too.
In my mind, If Sun themselves don't use the phrase "Java 5", then why should we? Shouldn't this release have the acronym J5SE?
You could services such as this to get that information.
