I've got a dual-boot windows and linux box "running" right now. I couldn't agree with you more. I'm not using one of the "linux for n00bs" distros, which might simplify the configuration process, but I still haven't gotten my cheap samsung laser printer configured. In fact, the initial process of downloading and burning an iso file is enough to scare the casual user away from Linux. The free distribution (as in beer, we're talking about the masses) should be a strong draw; instead, it's a hassle that most users won't even attempt.
