I have worked for a company that does 9/80 weeks for a while now, and I have to say it is a completely great way to go. For one thing an extra hour a day really isn't that big of a deal. In my old job, I'd usually get sucked into something at the end of the day that made me stick around the office for a few minutes to an hour after normal working hours (if not more) so working 9 hours instead of 8 doesn't feel that unnatural. But what does feel unnatural (and fantastic) is having a three day weekend every other week! If you are worried about not having time to get things done in your personal life, I wouldn't. I used to have a real problem scheduling doctors appointments and visiting shops that had odd hours and such during the week, but having a totally free day (while everyone else works) during the week, every other week, is actually incredibly convenient. Plus the Friday that you do work is a normal 8 hour day, which oddly enough ends up feeling like a half day for some weird psychological reason...
One caveat I will say, is that my company is pretty flexible on the start time that you work. Many people come in at 7 or 7:30 instead of the usual 8am and subsequently leave at 5 or 5:30 instead of 6pm. That kind of takes the edge off. I could see a company that expected you to work from say 9am to 7pm being kind of brutal. But overall I would NEVER voluntarily go back to a regular schedule again.
Virginia Tech has been doing this for years. The worst part is that anyone caught with this system gets an automatic Honor Code violation. I mean, what would you name a variable that is the bottom axis of a plot. If you said "x", congratulations, you have an honor code violation. Something like 60% of the students in my programming class got a violation in one form or another.
Actually, to have a fuel cell run off anything other than pure hydrogen requires a reformate process which takes a lot of power and space. The use of methane is only possible becuase the there are Proton Exchange Membranes avaialable that can extract hydrogen directly from methane using different catalyist loadings on the anode. While it is possible to run a cell from methane the effeciency is much lower than that of a hydrogen fuel cell, and the chances of the PEM fouling are much higher.
It is so disturbing to see people commenting on stories with so much authority, when it is quite obvious that they have no idea what they are talking about (not particularly you FencePost, its just that I have seen many Fuel Cell realated stories posted here, and people make comments on them like they are experts). I am a Mechanical Engineer deeply involved in fuel cell research, and I would never assume to open my mouth in a forum about Networking protocols and such. Please have the same repsect and do not pretent to be an authority when you are not (again, not directed on you FencePost, your comment was fairly tame, it just so happenes I am responding to this post when feeling this way)
I am surprised somthing this trivial has appeared on slashdot. I know that not everyone is an engineer, but my gut reaction to the posting of this article is one of shock that this would be posted. I know that lots of people post news worthy aritcles every minute and they get looked over, in lieu of this sophmoric drivel.
I am usually very pleased with the content of articles here, but this was obviously approved by a 9 year old.
I for one changed over from WinBlowze to Linux and happen to have a DVD player in my box. Also, many people do actually dual boot or have someone on their network that has a DVD player, so I for one am glad that SOMEONE is using this format in Linux. Not that I see a lot of Windows uses for DVD besides movies yet, but I think its great that we start using this tech.
I for one do not find this irrelevant and just because it contains certain keywords does not make it unworthy.
As for the comments about CmdrTaco..... you can keep him, I'm not a big fan either.
While I would be the first person to defend the possetion/use of L0phtcrack, what of objects whose explicit purpose is distruction, or something equally malicious? For example, it is not legal for the average person to possess biological weapons, but certain responsible agencies can handle them for research. This is because there is no reason for people who don't understand the distruction they can cause to have them. The intended uses of the "tool", as well as the context must be looked at. Certain apps, and by that I mean the code that created them, have no real practical purpose than distruction/spying/creating havoc. These apps need to be kept out of the hands of people who have no idea how to responsibly use their power.
How about offering teens some money to turn in jocks/popular kids that harras the kids that do not fit the "social norm". I would say that occurances of these rulling class students beating on/harrasing others BY FAR outwieghs the few random times that so called outcasts are pushed to the point of violence. If anything should be done, the people who are at the core of all this (the bullies) should be screened and not the victims
no matter how comercialized Linux becomes, I never think that it will become the unholy monster that Windows 2000 has become. The basis for this wonderful operating system is in the hands of thousands of independant developers and the basic vision of these develpoers (for the most part) is freedom of choice. If Linux does become more comercialized, we will only be able to enjoy more professionally designed software. Of course, you can't spell "freedom" without "free"!

Hope this helps.

and so on.
Generally derogatory nowadays. Something you call someone who hacks for destruction and generally has no soul.
