I think when all of us read the title, we imagined Abby from NCIS. Upon discovering what the book was really about, we were disappointed.

I think most geek/nerd guys dream date would be Abby. Present company excluded. She's a great woman..........just slightly hyper.

    How are they innocent..

I understand their argument and think they have a fair chance of getting off on technical issues.. But that just shows the legal system is messed up. I don't think anyone here wouldn't really see their true reason for hosting this site.

    A. Their product tailors specifically for pirating.

    B. They make money off it which in my mind is the true crime. Offering the service for free is one thing which they could perhaps get away with but making money off it layers another level of "no no".

Its true legal materials could be sent over their service but are you really going to go to "Pirate Bay" to get legal software? Do you go to a brothel to just get a bed?

What exactly do you have against piracy? Me? I see nothing wrong with it. I see it as a way for those of us (myself included) are poor enough that downloading from Limewire or something like that is not a bad thing. You forget that the rest of the world is not like you A.C, if you have the money, good for you....good for freaking you. But for those of us who don't make $100,000 a year or more, we don't have access to what we need. So in my mind, downloading from bittorrent sites, or pirate bay, or any other site out there dedicated to something like that is nothing bad that i see.

  15. Re:A Strawman for the Symptom on Pirate Bay P2P Trial Begins In Sweden · · Score: 1

The Pirate Bay is about theft, plain and simple. It may be true that the monetary losses are not nearly what the record companies claim, and it may be true that the media conglomerates are really out for money for themselves rather than to support the starving artists, but the propaganda is propaganda on both sides.

No it is not, it's about copyright infringement. Calling it theft is part of the propaganda of one of the sides in the debate, and it's rather ironic that you argue against it in the same sentence.

Also, I think you are wrong in your assumption of why people pirate movies, it's not because it's free, it's because it's convenient.

Yes. It is convenient. When you're making maybe less then 10 grand per year and you can't afford to go see a movie on a weekly basis, or go out and buy that game you want, or that program for your computer, then it is justifiable to use sites like Pirate Bay and other BitTorrent sites. Yes, though I realize that sometimes The System would rather screw you over and care less about your issues, because they are the people with money. But at the same time, the people making all the money, all the big wigs at the top, they should be more considerate of the "little man," but in cases like what is going on with Pirate Bay, it should be left to the discretion of those in charge, yet though with fair warning, that one day the little person will prevail.

I want to point out that the choice between spending a couple thousand a year vs downloading for free off the internet might make a difference if you're A) poor B) someone who doesn't make a lot of money or C) broke. (though A and C might go hand in hand) I see nothing wrong with Limewire and Pirate Bay and BitTorrents and whatnot. It's the fault of the media moguls and the artists who complain because they don't get a cent or two off the property. They're rich anyway, why are they complaining, because they didn't get a couple of dollars? If you're a poor college student as well, I see nothing wrong with it, it's a way around the system.

  17. Re:I hope P.B. win this trial on The Pirate Bay Is Making a "Spectrial" of It · · Score: 1

How is it wrong? You do realize that there are a lot of people right now who would use those links to download stuff, because A) we are in a downturning economy right now and B) a lot of people don't have enough money to go out and buy those things. so in the long run, is it bad and hurtful to use limewire or bittorrents and download that stuff? Yes, if you're a "starving" artist who won't get any royalty for it. No, if you're someone who doesn't want to see the rich getting richer while the poor get a whole lot poorer. Because frankly, those sites like Pirate Bay and others, they currently are what will save our ecomomy and have people stop worrying about things. In essence, the RIAA and MPAA and others are like the Puritans, only in the sense of the less moral and ethical sense. The torrenters and site owners who provide this stuff are like the happy go lucky people of Merry Mount New England, they want us to enjoy life and don't want us to bemoan the fact that the "puritans" are trying to control and censure us. Okay, done. btw. I'm a lit major. so if you're wondering where the lit rant came from, it was that.

China can get away with it because they are the richest country out there. We owe them a lot of money, and at any time they could call that debt in on us, and presumably (if they wanted to and probably could) ship us off to China to work in their factories, so we can pay them off. not only is that a possibility, should our economic downturn continue, they might just do that.
