" People are selling tools. The problem is how those tools are used. There are evil shit-heads all over the world. That does not mean the tools themselves are evil.

This is precisely why censorship of ANY form is bad.

This is no more "designer babies" than people looking for attractive people to mate with.

"looking" for attractive people to mate with, and actually getting to mate with them are different things. Something all slashdotters ought to know...

I can't believe he admitted it. "After all, US copyright-based industries continue to be one of America's largest and fastest-growing economic sectors."

Next thing you know he'll say, "And if they won't buy our opium, we will sail our ironclads right into their harbours and open up their markets, whether they like it or not."

    Bingo! I couldn't agree more.

While I'm being idealistic, I might as well also mention that we need to stop requiring college degrees for basically any middle class job. We've saturated the job market with highly educated people, while simultaneously diminishing the quality of that education. So now, as a society, we're paying inordinate sums for lowest common denominator education, that a large proportion of people don't need and won't ever use.

On the plus side, by keeping people out of the workforce for an extra 4-5 years, it helps keep un-employment down.

My guess would be that they are fibbing about their motives to make it look so "fishlike". If I wanted to send something into a location to "snoop" I would want it to blend in very well....

    Consumer reports isn't government funded.

Yes but it is *not* funded by those whom it is critiquing. It's funded by the consumer (those purchasing the reviews), it does not fund it's self with advertising. If I payed you to write my biography I bet it would look different than if my worst enemy payed you to write it!

  8. Re:The cameras do nothing on A Surveillance Camera On Every Chicago Street Corner? · · Score: 1

I agree with AC. However, I see the cameras coming to my small community soon. It seems pretty much inevitable. What surprises me is that nobody has suggested making these cameras "public" I wouldn't view them in such a sinister light if I could use them in my own defense. What I do not like is knowing that the Govt has all this footage and can control what is used and what isn't.... The cameras should be set up so that anyone can access the feed from them. The technology is there, and it's going to happen. What needs to be done is to establish WHO controls it....
