Looks like they've shut down the ability to use the invites - the exceeded capacity message is up. Hopefully they open back up again soon.

The fact that some people that know know a great deal about ferries know how to use a wiki does not imply that all people who know a great deal about ferries should know how to use a wiki. One counterexample does not a rule make...

Wikipedia was, as you say, "to be accessible to a variety of different people". It was not designed "to be accessible to every user or type of user on the planet". I'm certain of this fact since the very thought of explaining to my mother that equal signs surrounding text denotes a section heading (or that section headings exist for that matter) is so scary that it makes my head hurt.

I assume you actually mean "sell things in AAC format with FairPlay DRM". AAC itself is an open standard which is superior to MP3. Too many people think of AAC as an "Apple" standard when in fact it is part of the MPEG-2 standard.

  5. Re:What? on Jobs Resists Music Industry Pressure · · Score: 1

You cannot do that with AAC with DRM. AAC itself is nothing more than the audio layer of the mpeg-4 codec. It is entirely free and open... other players are free to support it without paying any royalties to Apple. AAC is not a bad format, in fact it is significantly better than MP3 from a quality at bitrate perspective.

The Michigan state use tax was already on the books and was grandfathered in when the moratorium on new taxes was established. Of course prior to the Internet commerce boom the use tax wasn't really enforced...

Because MPEG-4 (AAC) is less lossy than MP3.
Because higher quality can be achieved at lower bitrates.
Because AAC is an open format.

Apple may be championing the format but it's worth using due to its technical superiority and non-proprietary nature.

  11. Re:What of other works of art? on Public Park Designated Copyrighted Space · · Score: 1

It doesn't really matter who payed for it. An artist has the right to sell a piece of work, for example a painting, without selling the rights to reproduce the painting. If you purchase a piece of original art you do not have the right to reproduce it and sell copies of the art. You own the the piece of art... not the copyright to it.

That being said, this is ridiculous. The city should have secured the right to reproduce images of the piece so that this would no be an issue. Expecting tourists not take pictures of a piece of art in a public place is unreasonable.

Oracle/PeopleSoft is not a vertical merger. Oracle is the number three supplier of ERP software with their E-Business Suite. PeopleSoft is the number two supplier of ERP software. This would only be a vertical integration if Oracle were not already a major player in the ERP market.

Untrue, a show may certainly be cancelled in spite of being superb. A superb show does not necessarily generate sufficient revenue to produce a profit margin which is acceptable in the television industry. James Cameron's Dark Angel was a superb show which was cancelled in large part due to its high production costs.

The song IS the same length. The trojan is a regular copy of the song, with the noteable exception that BNL breaks in numerous times throughout the song to make statements. It's actually a decent advertisement in my opinion... you get to listen to most of the song. If you like what you hear and you want to hear the song without BNL cutting in every minute or so, you can go buy the CD.
