I don't understand why ALL of these US based politicians don't get that the INTERNET is an international, uncontrolled network of computers.. I can, right now, create a new network called TCharronNET and declare it Internet Law free, as it's NOT the internet.
Technically speaking, the INTERNET doesn't even exist! It's a network of networks all talking to each other. You simply can't regulate something like that.
Internet law is like Arizona setting local laws to govern the high seas.
M2 has actually hampered my moderation activity, since M2'ers have been rating me down a *lot*. If I do much more moderation, I'll end up with negative karma, and that would suck. I don't think my moderation has been particularly unfair, and I have no way of knowing what was moderated If you're Karma is suffering from M2, then it means that people in general are disagreeing with your moderation. I DO think you should get some feedback stating what was moderated, so you get a general feel of what people think you've been doing wrong, though.. All of this is already in place. you're obviously not a moderator As far as being a moderator, the individuals are randomly chosen, and yes, I have been randomly chosen several times. Notce the 'If They So Choose' part, and a ratio to doing it, which is slightly different ehn how it is now..
After thinking about it, I agree with you. You can always switch that little drop down that tells you how to order them, without displaying overall scores and moderation points.. Actually, I REALLY like that idea..
The layoffs will OBVIOUSLY make their earnings look better. It means that they temperarily have the stock onhand, without the payout of 2-3k employees salaries. They WILL post a profit from it, but I'm still undecided as to if they will continue to do so, or go down the tubes.. This is to bad..
It actually makes Linux look BAD in a way, with all of the press SGI has been gearing twards it's use of Linux..
THIS is a VERY good idea, HOWEVER, that means that a moderator has to go in with the intent of Moderating. Personally, when I DO get points, I pick and choose as I'm reading if to moderate of not. If I see an article I KNOW I'm going to comment on, I KNOW I'm not going to moderate, but it's seldon the other way around..
1) MetaModeration is good. Once a day, 10 random comments.
2) Moderation points / likelyhood SHOULD be based on overall Karma rating. High Karma means you give more to the community, and have more of a right to shape it. Not only that, but you're probrably a little smarter then the cowards..;-P
3) Allow higher Karma posters to automagically post at at a Score of '2' IF THEY CHOOSE. Shouldn't ALWAYS be 2, only when they think it's needed. The ratio of self-ups should be checked, and possibly taken away if Self Moderating on to many posts..
Really? Well, I just lost one more reason to buy one..;-P Is this a feature of the newer models? At one time I used one of the original Palm's, and it didn't, so I told work I didn't really use it..
Your getting paranoid. It's impossible to make a RedHat only binary. They ALL RUN LINUX.. Now, if Slackware doesn't provide something that this driver needs, well, that's Slackware's problem.. (I recently left Slackware becouse it just didn't keep with the times)
You can load any modules you want with any distro of Linux you want, plain and simple.
HERE HERE! I think the 'connected' palms where a good start. Now if Handspring offered a 'Connected' module at a low price, and a low monthly fee, I'd be ALL over that..
Q. Should we put rechargeable cells in the Springboard Module? If we do this, can we recharge FROM the Visor Cradle THROUGH the Springboard module connector TO our rechargeable in the module? OR do we need to have a wall adapter jack on the module for recharging?
A. Unfortunately our first generation cradle will not supply power to the VDOCK pin. If you want to use a rechargeable battery, you have three options:
Put a barrel connector in the remote itself and charge it separately from Visor. This probably makes the most sense in the short term, since people who use their Visor quite a bit during the day when they are out of the home would be perfectly happy to recharge their remote at home during the day. If the remote had to be recharged through Visor, that puts Visor out of commission during recharging (or at least makes it cumbersome to use). Build your own charging cable. We will have connectors that hook onto the bottom of Visor. You could use these to build a charging cable for the remote, using the VDOCK pin. But again, users would have to effectively give up using their Visor during recharging....could be unattractive. Build your own charging cradle. This could be a pretty interesting product, not only for the remote but for other rechargeable products as well. However, it would be expensive, and Handspring will come out with a charging cradle sometime next year which will probably be standard with our products. So it might also be riskier. But since most people hotsync anyway, this solves the problem of users losing Visor functionality. Long term this is the way to go, but short term it's probably not
I was browsing about the development page, and found this.:

One problem. You don't lose it all if your notebook's batteries die..;-P That's my main beef. I wish I could swap batteries and have memory kept via capacitors for like 2 minutes or so..
I really don't see anything new here, beside's a Palm clone with a few newer features.. Not that this is a BAD thing, but it's not all that impressive in my mind.. Heck, it even looks EXACTLY like a Palm. Auto installing software via ROMS is a nice feature, but not enough to warrent the fuss being made..
Your correct, it's NOT a 9-5 job, I don't ignore my sons for 16 hours a day, but I might let them watch TV with the clicker for an hour or so when they've behaved, as a reward. They like to do it, just like I like to zone in from of SimCity 3000, etc, etc.. When they're watching, I shouldn't have to sit there and monitor what they're clicking to.
A) That just makes them angry. Some things a 4 year old wants to do himself. He feels empowered by the fact that I let him choose what to watch. I don't want to undermine that, but at the same time I'd prefer he couldn't click on over to the romance channel.
B) Sometimes they may turn it on, and start watching when I'm not looking. You can NEVER be there 24 hours a day, you just can't. You may be doing dishes, you may be bringing out the traash, who the hell knows, but you can't.
'Squize me? How are your tax dollars going to be used? Why don't you move to a less oppresive society. Oh wait.. Then you'd have to fear for your life..
Guys and Gals, I must say, I see NO problem with the VChip or Kermit representing it. Who cares.. You don't like it, don't use it.
I hate automatic transmitions in cars. Do I complain, No, I just use a standard.
Personally, when my son wakes up in the morning at 6:00, and I'm still half asleep, I'd prefer he COULDN'T watch something I don't want him to. Yes, I want to censor my 4 year old. GOD FORBID.

Depends on how and WHO they laid off..
Did you read the article? Sun get's 3% flat rate of anything made in bulk with it..

That's the wonders of it.. Don't sort by score, and set your limit to -1, as Rob said.. It's all built so you can just turn it off..
Here's what my feedback would end up being:
;-P
1) MetaModeration is good. Once a day, 10 random comments.

I noticed that as well.. I wrote it off as being related to the 'server farm' that was supposed to be in operation..
Really? Well, I just lost one more reason to buy one.. ;-P Is this a feature of the newer models? At one time I used one of the original Palm's, and it didn't, so I told work I didn't really use it..

Sounds to me like it was more like they had to get the ball, and dump it over the net. I WOULD like to, however, see the 'official' page on it..

Actually, the Calcutator that is shipped by default has this label:
"Calculator button: The calculator has been turbocharged to add financial and scientific functions"

Not to shabby, but still basically just a prototype, not a real shipping unit quite yet..
'Squize me? How are your tax dollars going to be used? Why don't you move to a less oppresive society. Oh wait.. Then you'd have to fear for your life..
SSh.. Don't tell them that.. They might try to rationalize it..

Seems rather vague on the specs etc.. I'll believe it all when I see it on a Nokia web site..
