This has happened to me several times. If they feel you can be of any help whatsoever they naturally want to hang on to you however most will accept that you have other plans. There are a few, very much like the people you are dealing with that want to jerk you around. My suggestion is to ride out your three weeks then say goodbye. Move on to your next job and if any negative comments come from that part of your past show them your performance reviews and any praise you may have received while there. If you still have problems after that contact your attorney, as you may have a libel case on your hands.
