Such an influx of finances into empty product/service ideas will NOT happen again.
Why do you think that?

Linux can't read the nasty proprietary file system that my camera uses to write to the memory card but Windows can. That's just one example, there are also games that won't run and plenty of drivers that are Windows only. What do you suggest I do in this situation? Buy a new camera? Not likely.
To use myself as an example... my primary uses of my laptop are: playing music with winamp, surfing the 'net with firefox, editing documents with openoffice 2.0, writing Java code with Eclipse, running Java apps on JBoss, reading RSS feeds with RSSOwl, writing blog posts with JBlogEditor, reading email with Thunderbird, tracking my calendar with Sunbird, downloading things with Azureus, IM'ing with AIM and Yahoo IM and, er, that's about it. Now I don't claim to be a representative sample all by myself, but I bet plenty of people do pretty much those same things, or less. The oft mentioned "my grandmother" or "mom and dad" certainly fall in that catetory.
No most users don't write Java code, run Java apps on JBoss or read RSS feeds. My dad has quite a lot of various shareware programs and games like Microsoft Flight Simulator which will probably never have Linux versions or equivalents. My sister uses MSN places which doesn't work as well on Firefox as IE. I used to play (and might again) Legend of Mir 2 which doesn't run that well on Linux under either WINE or Cedega. World of Warcraft is quite a lot slower too. It's very easy to take a subset of apps and say hey Linux has something similar but as soon as something that the user wants to work doesn't or doesn't have an equivalent or no driver for a device they'll want Windows back ASAP. Do you seriously think that more people wouldn't try Linux if they could run everything that they could in Windows?

Linux would already be on a lot of desktops except for one important detail: it doesn't run Windows apps and drivers very well or at all. The inability to get round that obstacle is what has defeated every single would-be competitor over the last 11 years.
The main reason Linux can't succeed on the desktop is because it can't run the majority of apps and drivers that people want to use. No amount of ease of use improvements will change that fact. And if anyone feels like rehashing the false premise of OS/2 failing - please just think about whether people would buy an OS that was cheaper, more reliable and still ran all the stuff want like to run on Windows. You seriously think it wouldn't sell?
If you run KDE or GNOME perhaps but then you have a lot more choices than just those two. To pre-empt the next comment: do the various shell replacements for Windows run on old hardware?
And I would point out to you that the only two European countries that have actually suffered terrorist attacks are Spain and the UK, both of whose governments supported the Iraq war.
Which intellectual property is he talking about? WINE? Samba? Do you have to pay license fees on reverse engineered products? Does that mean Compaq owe IBM a hell of a lot of money?
I dispute the hard to use part of Linux. Yes it's a bugger to get working sometimes but so is Windows. How many of us here provide tech support to otherwise intelligent people who have a complete blind spot when it comes to using a Windows box. If Windows breaks in a confusing way how many non-geeks do you know who can sort it out? My dad is the only one I know and I support a lot of family, friends and co-workers.
More politicians to buy in the EU and some of them are those evil socialists who think that businesses should be prevented from some of their worst excesses rather than being allowed their god-given right to make profits no matter how they do it.
Thank you very much for making me feel really really old and also for leading me to play Knight Tyme again. What an excellent game that was and still is:)

The WoW client on Mac OS doesn't use Direct3D.
If it merely didn't work properly he'd have a point. However when people lose their accounts that is a bit more serious.
You should really have known better than to post a hastily thought out code snippet in this nest of pedants.
Wish we could send them all there.
Well I don't know about you but I switch my machine off when I'm not using it.

One feature I really like and put to good use is the eval method - take any string and treat it as a piece of code and run it
I know Rexx and VBScript can also do that and I'm sure they're not the only ones. It's very handy but hardly unique.

But aren't AOL in financial trouble at the moment due to customers going with other ISPs?
Yeh let's get rid of limited liability and make corporate officers truly liable for everything they do. That would promote the free market.
I thought camp BSD was called OSX.

No problem there are a load of people with handguns the US government won't dare try to pull any fascist crap.
Which great products are you referring to? Surely not any of the Win9x line?
Huh? When did that change? It's always said "Thou shalt not kill" in my bible.
