I have a device just like this, touch screen and all, its my GPS. Is there any sort of open form factor that vendors could use to be EITHER a GPS, a WikiReader, MP3 player, etc? Stop the gadget proliferation !!
The whole idea of a coprocessor is to distribute the work. Oddly, Intel seems to be using the CPU as the graphics coprocessor, instead of the other way around. However, if your task is not CPU constrained, then this actually makes sense. Its weird, and shady not to admit it, but if Intel came out and said "The following executables are not CPU constrained on processor X, therefore we shift graphics back to the CPU for improved performance" everyone would applaud them for being clever.
Its not asinine. These people make millions per hour. They literally count downtime in seconds. People are fired for 10 minute glitches. If you told a trading place "it takes 2.3 milliseconds longer", they would do the math, realize that over their volume, its a significant cost, and not use the product.
I bought a LaserJet 6MP, added RAM and the postscript SIM, total cost incl shipping was about $100. I have yet to exhaust the toner that it came with, and it works with everything I have (OSX, Linux, XP, Vista).
no thanks, you're already taking enough of my money. Please let people with children look after their own children, w/o fobbing the (fiscal) responsibility off on the rest of us.
Newsflash - laptops with giant screens and monster processors use more juice too. What's next, an article about how V8 engines use more gas than 4-cyl engines?
And thus, the FAIL. How does this prevent anyone from RUNNING other applications, i.e. via the classic "download the exe with IE but tell it to run instead of save" trick, or from a non "installed" Firefox, etc from a USB drive?
"...The point is that it's another exploitable object..."
You've just described the entire Windows operating environment, where everyone runs as Administrator. I don't think MS can make this argument with a straight face.
When I was in the UK in graduate school, our compsci projects were graded by computer - not enough comments? lose points. variable names too short? lose points.
Why not just print the letters, or as I do, a sort of fast/smear print, which gives you some of the advantages of high speed cursive, without all the stupid looping and formatting requirements?
We need a ripoff Mac/PC commercial, where Linux is represented by a nerdy yet busty chick (I'm thinking Abby from NCIS) who makes verbal mincemeat of both the PC and Mac guy, then whips out a Nokia tablet, announces she's off to meet her girlfriend on a date.../I'll be in my bunk
I just read that you can tell with about 87% accuracy who a person is, based on their date of birth, gender, and zip code. How's this much different - it draws on public information in a meaningful way.
Submitter has it backwards - You'd end up with the degree you want, without the knowledge to prove it. Why do you think University of Phoenix is so popular?
Anyone that counts (i.e. not a flyover state) has either cable or some kind of fiber like FiOS. Since that won't go away, why not just use the same connection for Internet?

Only the strong survive.
Don't keep us in suspense - what brand/model NAS ?
Get the vaccine to avoid a virus you will probably get, but it puts you at higher risk for a virus you have a tiny chance of catching. Sold.
Maybe you pissed someone off, or are a douche, and they modbombed you.
Get "rain" or any of those other "issue NOOP when the system is idle" freeware packages.

If they keep it up, Israel may "donate" a lot of fissionable material to them, delivered via airmail.
OK makes sense. Shame on me for reading the summary.
"The Department of Education also uses the AppLocker functionality within Windows 7 to dictate which applications can be installed."
Nice piece of editing, there Slashdot editors.

Fortunately for Nintendo, many people don't care about HD games:

People are posting anonymously because they have no trust in the police.

Next they need to make the case out of cardboard.
Can you say "instantaneous heat death" ? Vacuum is an excellent insulator.
