a lot of people here say that aol should just run their own cable. well, it's not really that simple...
in most areas, it's effectively illegal. don't you love government granted monopolies?
there's no way local governments will foot the bill to lay more cable for every isp that wants it, like they did for the cable companies.
the cable companies make most of their money on tv. isp's (in theory at least) don't care about tv. you want them to run cable to every house for just one service, and pay for it themselves, without the steady return of money for tv?
the way i see it, all the isp's want to do is put a router of their own on the cable lan. then the whole bunch of isp's can each take a subnet on the network, and have their routers only listen to their customers. very simple. a hell of a lot less hassle then watching the street get torn up constantly.
relax and let them fight it out. and stop whining about their whining:)
to my understanding, NT should keep the paging file from fragmenting, at least if you are using NTFS. if the size is locked, then there should never be a problem anyway. and if you put a paging file on every possible partion, as microsoft recommends, performance should be pretty good.
i think i got that from slashdot, but i don't remember... anyway, the machines come with scsi floppy drives, but i think they are external. last time i checked, pricewatch has an entry for scsi floppy drives.
as for the second item, that would seem to be a very packed card. but hey, i don't know.
free speech means that you are free to speak (if you so choose). it most definately does not mean that your speech is free (whether you like it or not).
now i've forgotten how i was going to explain that. oh well.
...that the only ones being specifically gagged were the software makers. you see, their programs ran faster. much faster. and what does that best? prototype hardware! that is, i think intel took a bunch of the very best p3's they've made yet, ones that may clock in at >600, maybe put them on a 133mhz bus (if they have a vaguely functional camino yet) and cooled them way down.
if the software makers can't comment, then they can't tell you that what you saw ain't gonna happen on anything you can buy any time soon.
or i may be wrong, and they are just being perverse.
i can't remember which, but i'm pretty sure that i read somewhere that either the k7 or k8 will be a return to raw cisc. apparently they figured emulation was a waste of logic.

it wasn't working with aol's browser a few minutes ago (but had no problems on communicator and ie4 run externally), but it seems to work now
