They solve your problems for free because they are not obsessed with money and prestige like you are. You basically just told me that you exploit the intelligence of your former peers to your advantage, and that is why you are an "excellent" Engineer, with a capital E. You can do things when others only make it possible for your to do them. I base my knowledge on the fact that I will have an M.S. in applied math, and I am entering into a PhD in computational mathematics "somewhere". I say "somewhere" because I have three options, one for sure, one preferable, and one "meh, maybe". You are welcome to have my address too if you want to duke-it-out.
I also mentioned that in my original post. Its not wrong/immoral/evil to expose lies, its just that an entity that wishes for peace would conduct themselves accordingly, i.e. not trying to do things they know causes people to get possibly violent. You are reading too far into what I say. Wikileaks philosophy is an absolute awesome idea, but peace is about everyone respecting eachother while having what they need to live (in order to prevent dissatisfaction). I respect the idea of peace as a principal, such as laid out by Gandhi or Mother Theresa or Buddhism or Jesus. You cannot say that Wikileaks is a peaceful movement, because they do not address peace as an issue, they only care about justice. "An eye for an eye and the whole word goes blind".
Statistics isn't really even that hard. Most mathematicians do the math because they enjoy it. If anything he has a arrogant side to him because he is wealthy.
I am not sure where you gathered that I think Wikileaks should be held responsible for other individuals actions. If you read the whole message I wrote, I merely said they are not an ideal candidate for a Nobel peace prize because they are not concerned with having peace. They are concerned with you, I and everyone else knowing everything that happens amongst our inner circles of government, business and finance. This is a good thing in my opinion, but the Nobel peace prize is meant for people that spend their lives helping people get along rather than spending their time helping people have more things to get pissed off about.
You are preaching to the choir. However, a Nobel peace prize is supposed to be reserved for an individual and/or organization that brings nations and people closer to harmony with eachother, and/or for eliminating hardships of the common man. An example of someone who deserves one is Mother Theresa. Wikileaks whole modus operandi is for all of the aforementioned to know everything even if they fraction or fight. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but Wikileaks hardly represents a peaceful movement. Wikileaks wants you to be informed at all costs, even if that means revolution or war. What is right is not necessarily peaceful, however, how can you say that you should award peace medals to an organization that supports revolution as a means for change? Unless they start advocating peaceful revolution like Gandhi, I firmly disapprove of any nomination or award of the Nobel peace prize to Wikileaks. I still appreciate what they are doing, but they should decline the nomination out of principal.
Here's a hint : Wikileak's leaks actually increased the number of violent acts in Tunisia and Egypt because they informed the population how shitty their government is and caused more people to revolt. Im not saying they didn't do the right thing, but nominating them let alone awarding them a peace prize is a load of crap. It goes against the entire principal of the award.
Obama never deserved that prize, and neither did Gore. Obama hasn't done anything noteworthy besides being the first black president in his career and all Gore did is exaggerate the truth. I am a liberal by the way.
There is always natural selection. You see people pair up with others of equal attractiveness. You see smart people tend to live longer because they also tend to get better jobs and can afford to do so. These people may not have 6 kids but their 1-2 kids will be competing against other humans, some to many with inferior traits. If every poor person has 10 children, by virtue of their class many of those children will die early. It happened with my father's family of 10. Two twin aunts of mine died very young, one uncle died in a car accident, and three of my remaining aunts died from liver problems. I also have one uncle that has never had children. Overall the ratio is about 2 births per deaths at this point. One day there will be an event that wipes out the majority if not all human beings. If any remain, they will be the ones most suited to survive.
Yes. I realize it, but its not just trading robots. Its people on the floor selling as soon as they see a downward move. Furthermore, what made all these people set their levels at the same exact area? Excess fear and over-reaction. I personally think it was all one big scam to artificially surpress the market and it ended up backfiring (or maybe working out exactly right) because they were putting too much fear in investors. There is no reason to run day after day the same sort of bad news and have pessimistic people being interviewed every 20 minutes, not to mention ratings agencies were targeting specific times and periods of no-news to downgrade credit rankings of banks and nations which would further weaken the dollar. This all happened when the fundamental indicators were showing either nothing you could really conclude much from, or news of economic recovery.
The salary for a teacher that has a MS or PhD does not scale appropriately. You are better off going for a job in corporate America with those credentials. Furthermore, the fact that tenure exists is different than how its executed by school boards. High schools, middle schools and grade schools many times rule over teachers with an iron fist, and fire them for petty infractions related to disagreements with a student's parents over what they teach in their class. Its much different at the college level where professors are allowed many more freedoms.
Evolution is easy to see for yourself. Look at the history of Dog breeds. Once you teach someone a true concept of time it falls right out that "Micro-evolution + Time = Macro-Evolution".
As was paying teachers shit wages so that the only people who would vie for such jobs would be the people you mention. They need to give teachers tenure or something to counter-act it (which would also fix the teaching evolution problem), or they just need to pay them more.
You certainly sound like an asshole generalizing Americans that way. I don't disagree that many are becoming this way, but they typically come from wealthy families and the wealthy families are ruining America systematically through destruction of our education system and acquirement of all of the wealth partially by outsourcing to your beloved China. I was partially sheltered from this because I came from a rural state. My mother and father had nothing that didn't fit in the trunk of a car when they got married. My father was sent around to various foster homes in his childhood because his parents wouldn't feed him. They couldnt afford to after they spent all their money on booze. I went to college my Junior and Senior year of high school of my own volition. I took calculus, etc. because I enjoy learning and I particularly enjoyed math. My father works his ass off as a realtor and a private business owner (janitorial business) after a stint in the US AF. My mom continues to work a desk job as a realtor AND an accountant for my father's business and the realty company in spite of her lower back being filled with nearly debilitating pain from a decade old injury. My parents were never overly demanding of me, and always made me feel like I had my own self-determination with the choices I made, courses I took, etc. In fact my childhood was filled with more praises and affections than harsh words or discipline. They didn't even get upset at me coming home drunk when I was underage. Its not that they wouldn't be upset if I achieved bad grades or was lazy, its just that they wouldnt be so obsessed with it that they would insult me over it. Now I am well on my way to a PhD. Have fun in Europe or China.
Don't forget the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_MBAs . Its considered a professional degree, i.e. one focusing on the practice of a discipline rather than research. All the same, my argument stands even if you throw out all MBAs and DBAs.
The problem is the DMCA and such. He considered as facilitating software pirates endeavors essentially. Don't get me wrong, its all a big joke, but the way the shoddy and hellish legal system works you actually would be considered wrong. What we have here is a brilliant young man that should be getting job offers from Sony or any other company that has half a brain but because of the whole Intellectual-Property-Mentality of today he is being challenged. Seriously, look up this kids accomplishments http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Hotz.
What makes you think he will get a check? Sony is a global behemoth. They will tie him up in the court system/s for a decade or until we either forget about him, he gets tired of it, or he goes broke. The court systems of the world these days are far removed from reality and instead based on manipulating laws and precedent to one's advantage. Really, this case should be about the fundamental principal of what he did rather than what it "could possibly do one day". After all, we don't sue the blacksmith because one of his axes were used to cleave a mans skull in twain. We don't make him stop making axes, and one doesn't hold rights over what he does with metal once one sells it to him.
There was also the "glitch" that happened in May 2010 where certain stocks lost 90 percent of their value and then rebounded to close somewhere near where they started. It was called a computer glitch that resulted from a large Proctor & Gamble trade. I was watching it that day and the dollar weakened against every currency MASSIVELY. Totally unprecedented movement. It occurred basically due to market panic over Greek debt and the Euro-zone looking poorly as well as the US looking bad in the fundamental numbers coming out. Traders many times use automatic utilities that can sell their stock (or short it) when certain levels are broken and they broke hard, exacerbating the sell-off. It was all blamed on automatic trading, high-frequency trading, and a single broker "fat-fingering" a button but I honestly think it was more due to downright fear and over-reaction. Luckily people stepped in and nullified a lot of the problem after the fact but if we were not a technologically advanced civilization that can put the brakes on the market I have no doubt that day would have been just like October 1929.

I am not sure if they would necessarily lean towards free will. I would think a properly trained academic would think that there is no such thing.
I'd mod you down for using Opera, but ator3 already mentioned why I can't.

7.2 million teachers in the US, 2.3 million have tenure. http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1859505,00.html http://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/pdf/cb10ff-14_school.pdf

Agreed. In private I probably would have said that, only because I can be a jerk.

Boy I wish I was an administrator so I could blatantly ignore people's stupid requests all day.

Or just tell the fundies to go fund their own private school and drive themselves back to the stone age at their own peril.
My response to that little bastard would have been, "You're right, you came from the dirt".
