The main problem about merging seperate aplications into one common is teh lack of flexibility. I like to use a calendar aplication and a mailprogram but I see lite good in melting it alltogether in a single program.
It's not because(not only anyway) it's microsoft who wrote it outlook are full of bugs and securityholes, its because Outlook like Evolution have merged to many different tasks into a sigle aplication. This is a step away from the "unix-way" with small exchangeable intercooperable aplications, Therefor the open source movement are just asking for the same problems as we today see in outlook/exchange/ISS -systems...
This only shows that the IP protcoll is to vounerble to abuse. In the short term such tools can bee of help but in the long run new secure protocols are needed that can prevent such abuse seen recently

But this thing was about the servermarket. Since Linux can run on almost any hardware a future migration from the x86 platform will be easier. A company in groth may start using a PC based hw and move to more complex/expensive hw whitout loosing in backwards compability. And yes any comparation between free and comercial software will be injust. One must also remember that the licencing fee/purcasingprice is only small amount of a systems lifecosts.
