Cable DOCSIS 3 technology can achieve 160/100 mbps to a node, which is shared between 64, 128, or even more users, depending on how cheap/small the cable company is. For comparison's sake, Verizon's FIOS uses a Passive Optical Network (PON) to share 1 or 2.4 gbps among 32 users, depending on how aged the equipment is. Currently Verizon is testing XGPON, which will allow them to deliver 10 gbps to 32 users. This will make 1 gbps connections the standard. There is no competition between cable and fiber.
90+% of blacks voted for Kerry in 2004. There's your refutation. Aside from a couple of percent, their votes had nothing to do with the color of the president's skin.
Liberal success was financed by a wealthy middle class. Savings occur when middle class have enough money leftover after spending on the economy to save up for other activities. I'm going to bang on my head on the wall in the hope that you read up on history.
Rich people have been moving overseas for the last 30 years. If you give them more money, they will spend it overseas. If you want to make America's economy stronger, give it to those people who will spend it within the country: the poor and middle class. If the richest corporations take their business elsewhere, other businesses will spring up to take the place and sell it to the enormous market that a powerful US middle class will represent.
They do. You don't realize how much suffering there was before social security and the various social safety nets were enacted. Well actually, back then most of the affluent just pretended the poor didn't exist. In the 1950s a magazine came out with the proclamation that poverty in the US had been eliminated. Reality was far, far from that fantasy.
Them leaving is actually completely fine, albeit completely unrealistic. Rich people don't "create jobs". It's demand from a strong middle class that wants to buy new products, accessories, techno gadgets, etc. that creates the incentive for startups and companies to research and develop new products. Even if you face a 90% tax bracket, the idea of leaving money on the table is ridiculous. There will always be businesses to sell to people with money. Give the poor and middle class money, and they'll spend it. Give to a rich man, and he'll invest it overseas.
But by all means, continue ignoring the reality that our greatest period of growth was right after WW2 when we had 90% tax brackets. 30 more years of America losing jobs overseas, the rich getting ever richer, and millions more becoming homeless, while everyone complains that the rich are "punished", should leave you in a great situation I'm sure. I'm in the highest bracket so it won't hurt me, but I sure do feel bad for those who must suffer for your foolishness.
Our greatest period of growth was right after WWII when we had 90% tax brackets. Your facts are way off. If a rich man is set on an island, he will make no money. His ability to make money without the use of force or fear of retaliation is entirely due to the society set up by the entire US populace and the government it elects. He has no claim to individual "success", regardless of whatever silliness you believe.
Pop idols have a huge tendency to disappoint their fans with their human behavior and accompanying personality deficiencies. Lo and behold, they're not actually idols. I can see the appeal in having a digital, holographic entity to fawn over. She'll never let the fan down with any scandalous behavior, she'll always have a perfect voice, and she'll never age.
That by protecting their manufacturing base from a country that dumps goods into other countries' economies while manipulating trade and currency, Germany has allowed its manufacturing industry enough breathing room to implement economies of scale and efficiency that help it to compete globally?
The obvious issue here is cost. But if they can get it low enough, they could sell this virtually anywhere to private residents, and I don't mean just 3rd world countries. Think about places like Australia where they frequently don't have enough water.
Not exactly. Clearwire is throttling users on congested towers. In their defense they are upgrading towers with much higher throughput microwave as we speak, so hopefully throttling will become less and less common. But I hear your concern. When it comes to my area I don't think I will risk moving over to Clearwire as a home connection if they're throttling users.
LTE, LTE a and WiMax 2 has much better latency than WiMax. TeliaSonera in Sweden has a commercial LTE network running with latencies of 20-40 ms in real usage settings. It's ridiculously fast. Online gaming over wireless will be great.
Clearwire is trialling an LTE network in Phoenix right now, saying it will achieve 20-70 Mbps throughput. They have the spectrum to actually achieve this too. When WiMax 2 and LTE Advanced come out, assuming enough competition exists to prevent caps from showing up, DSL companies will be put out of business. This of course is why Verizon sold its rural landlines to Frontier. They know they can come back with 700 MHz LTE, and later LTE a, and blow the pants off of slow-poke 1.5 Mbps DSL.
And you sum up what's wrong with this nation. Retards who think anyone with compassion is lazy and nonsensical, and that democracy fails when their preferred leaders aren't in charge.
Like the Nintendo 3DS, this will require that you look directly at the screen to see the 3D effect. Anyone looking at the screen from an angle will not see the effect.
This of course makes it kind of useless as a TV, but I think it's perfect as a computer monitor. Just a bit too expensive.
If they're the same then why does Obama want to end taxes for rich people but keep them for the middle class, while Republicans want them for the rich? Why do the Republicans filibuster any and every attempt by Democrats to push a bill through Congress? I'm having trouble understanding your belief that they're the "same".
Why should they be allowed to run ads? Corporations have no right to spend any money. They have no liabilities and their money comes from consumers who have no interest in or concern with the political affiliations of the producer of their toilet paper. Unions are different, since they're groups of individuals who get together and pool their money for their common interests. If rich corporate executives also wish to do this, then so be it. We could have a CEO union. But I don't think they'll get too far with the limitations on individual contributions to political campaigns.

So the ones hit the worst are the poor and lower middle class. How is that any better?
Um, no. Most of Canada's populace is in three major cities, or within a few kilometers of the American border.

If you must know, the gap between rich and poor increased further due to the recession.

Oh yes, *that* won't have any dire economic effects. Unemployment uptick/Deflationary spiral FTW!

Oh just shutup you stupid corporate troll. No one likes to read your drivel nearly as much as you do.

This is a great post, and your links are extremely informative. I wish this could have been modded to +5 so everyone could see it.

Liar. AT&T has lobbied more than any corporation or group in the last 10 years.
Uh... we already DO limit individual campaign contributions. What the heck do you mean it's not "America's thing"?
