Obviously the solution is batteries, which unfortunately isn't there yet from a cost perspective. But I think they'll be there soon. Certainly the government could push for utility scale storage and updating the grid.
People in Japan are heavily protesting the nuclear reactors because of how much corruption is involved in that industry.
What do you do about solar power in the winter though? Especially in northern latitudes where the "day" lasts all of 8 hours with very weak sunshine, it can't substitute for anything. Wind has the issue of randomly stopping for up to a week. If a utility wants to build a week's worth of energy storage then batteries need to be less than 10% of their current cost.
I don't know how this guy wrote the entire article without realizing it, but as Tesla explained in a Bloomberg article the cost of the 10 kWh battery's full installation plus inverters is $7100, not $3500, if you buy outright, and $5000 if you lease. It's just way too expensive. Battery tech needs to come down to under $100/kWh to become more mainstream, and solar panels need to drop to about half or even less of what they are now.
Actually the issue isn't just battery density. It may not be as long as you think before we get lithium air batteries with similar battery density to fossil fuels, but the problem with refueling time remains. You would need an impractically sized cable to carry the voltage required to "fast charge" a plane battery, and that would still be much slower than using a liquid fuel.
I think hydrogen will eventually supplant fossil fuels in aerospace.
But they're still using flat, ugly single palette squares that turn your home screen into a claustrophobic nightmare. And what's the point of a live tile when you can't interact with it?
You set up a thousand strawmen and shot them down. The emissions limits will demonstrably help the situation. Leaving it be without attempting to mitigate CO2 release will make the effects of climate change significantly worse. There's no "political theater", there's only the CO2 ppm and correlated temperature changes. It's not just "progressives" proposing solutions, but nearly all climate scientists who see how devastating the effects of unchecked climate change will be.
The UI was "artsy" in WP7, but it's just cluttered and ugly now. You can't even use live tiles like widgets. No one will adopt this platform until they fix the UI. WP marketshare actually shrank last year. Heck even Blackberry predicts they'll sell double the units this year.
When it comes to abortion no one seems to care about the father's opinion or feelings on the matter even though without him there'd be no fetus. It's all about a "woman's choice" while utterly ignoring the other side of the equation. Western society in general seems to value females more than males. So I'm guessing this will end up the same way.
Except that... in Tesla's case the consumer pays for half the cost of the battery, whereas in your hypothetical case the utility pays 100% of the cost.
If you maintain charge between 20% and 80%, which Tesla does with its cars and almost certainly will do with its home batteries, you can make the battery last 10 years.
Android was a Blackberry clone until Google saw the original iPhone and knew they had to copy the UI or be instantly obsolete. The UI thread doesn't get priority and Android as a result will never, ever stop having lag issues. The garbage collection also causes microstuttering. The OS also has the worst update system ever conceived. The technology is old and decrepit and doesn't deserve the popularity it has.
If it requires dating 10 girls to find a good one, that 1/10 ratio bodes poorly for the male populace.
Most of the developed Asian countries have extremely low birth rates and their populations will start to shrink in a couple decades.
People say this often but if 1/10 women aren't shallow, what do the other 9/10 males do?

So... you're a parasite for driving a car that runs on subsidized gasoline?

Ah yes we "take them to task" with stern words and a disapproving glance.
Is this just word salad? For the life of me I have no idea what you're saying.
I think they would prefer to keep the battery compartment sealed from the external environment.

Lol don't say that to the Android fanboys. Or the Blackberry fanboys (curse my stupid Z10).

For students screwed over by a school though that's a better situation than them just laying down and accepting it.
Yeah I think the cost of batteries is going to need to decrease to about 1/10th of what they are now for these to be viable.
Except that... in Tesla's case the consumer pays for half the cost of the battery, whereas in your hypothetical case the utility pays 100% of the cost.
The average US monthly electricity bill is $120/month.

Blackberry OS is like Android in that it doesn't prioritize the UI thread, so it suffers from lag issues. I can attest to the lag with my Z10.

Horrible and ugly UI.
Dude, your wife's iPhone is broken. Go take it to an Apple store and get it fixed you tool.
