When the AI exceeds human intelligence we could have a problem with these machines... The singularity is coming if we have scientists and mathematicians. See an article how virtual parrots can be used to advance AI.
Rhapsody is a subscription based music service with monthly fee of 15$. Someone will make it with 7$/month soon I am sure of it. Why be pirate if you have to pay for it?
Ben Goertzel, AGI researcher, wrote in his article that crowd of people constantly talking to a virtual parrot would help it to grow into a naturally speaking context-understanding AI.
If companies were using thin clients, it should be an easy decision to switch it off, because the wake up time is in seconds rather than minutes.
IMO this is a usability problem; When no-one (including my processes) is using a computer, it should switch off automatically. And wake up when I come back.
First prototype of the 3D web is already run at thousands of Opensim servers all around the globe. The 3D Web bears similarities to 2D Web; Users can follow links to teleport from a 3D world to another one. 3D Viewers are used to browse the 3D content on the servers.

realXtend open source virtual world platform can be programmed in Python, I made a test to visualize email inbox as a terrain.

The same applies to lights, heating, ... with intelligent energy management.
Maybe even bigger problem is that I drive to work instead of working from home using a virtual world...
