    there's a software package called Arrow Trader [arrowscripts.com] that monitors traffic and maintains link trades for TGP sites. They can't even use paypal to accept payments anymore.
     
    Funny... it says right here on that website that "Payment can be made with credit card (Visa and Mastercard), via paypal or by Wire Transfer."

    I think you're forgetting about "National Geographic" type photos of native women in Africa and so on. Would National Geographic have to move to an .xxx domain too?

    Of course, that would be a nuisance for the developers involved but it would certainly be possible.

    ps2pdf tmp.ps will give you a much smaller (as in about 10% of the size of) pdf than convert will. With equal or better image quality as well.

    I always thought that the "landmark" BBS was Fido. In turn more-or-less pushed aside by Opus.
     
    Or perhaps I'm just more focused on networking than simple communication between user-and-BBS.

    I use an abacus to do binary arithmetic when I'm programming. Really. It's easy to visualize and I avoid a lot of dumb mistakes that way.
     
    I had a tiny little abacus that I used for this purpose for years (about 4"x2") but last year I finally got a really nice Chinese abacus (about 6"x14") and it's wonderful. It lives on the bookshelf right beside my computer along with my reference manuals and whatnot.

    If your read the fine print text at the bottom of the first page, she wants $5000 per page, per copy, for any copies (paper, electronic, what-have-you) that you make of any information on her website.

    That depends on the publication's audience.
     
    Will a technically-oriented magazine have a natural tendency to move online? Of course.
     
    Will a magazine about quilting or tulip bulb planting or knitting or tractor repair move online as easily? Not so much.
     
    There will probably always be room for a printed publication laying on someone's table, workbench or truck dashboard. At least, for a very long time yet.

    Don't you mean my services and my company? Your screen name is your your company name, after all.
     
    The wording of your advertisement here is somehwat misleading as you are attempting to sound like a neutral third party or a satisfied customer; it's a futile effort when your screen name gives your actual relationship away.
     
    Be up-front and honest about these things when you promote your company and you will get a lot further and appear a lot more trustworthy. After all, if I can't trust you to state your relationship to your company in an honest fashion, why should I trust you with hosting my email?

    The one way that DRM can work is replacing the "personal computer" in home environments with a dedicated entertainment appliance.
     
    I believe that device is called "cable television".

    Certainly. Many works of fiction expose the reader to far-off lands and other ages, ideas and philosophies expressed by characters in the books, concepts of science, law, investigative theory, fishing, you-name-it.
     
    Just because it's "fiction" doesn't mean that it is worthless as anything other than fluff. You really don't have to check your mind at the door before sitting down to read a good novel.

    I don't think that having a "library" necessarily implies "lending out".
     
    Most of us here have a private library of books and other materials that we use for our own purposes, which may or may not include lending any item to someone else. I may even occasionally give an item from my library to someone else as a gift.
     
    You don't need a sign on the door that says "library" to have one.

    Are you a Professional Engineer? If not, I strongly suggest that you avoid referring to yourself as "The Engineer" as there are hefty fines for doing so. A guy not too far from recently got fined several thousand dollars for calling himself an Engineer, in fact.
     
    You might be able to get away with calling yourself an engineer, no capitalization. Perhaps not. You won't be able to swing "The Engineer", though.
     
    Of course, if you are in fact a P.Eng, then you're welcome to carry on!

    If that's the case, then why not just use a keypad and be done with it? Why bother with the card at all? Just to give folks something else to lose?

    It's also not "new in a box" after they take it out to update the firmware. People want one with the shrink-wrap still on it. Otherwise, they want a discount for an "open box" or "demo".

    I think you run into the concept of "a reasonable expectation of profit" before you can deduct anything as a business expense.
