  2. well... on Miramax To Distribute Films Over Net? · · Score: 1

Well, we all saw how long the whole DIVX fiasco lasted, so I'm not expecting this one to last very long for a couple reasons:

1.) Its a proprietary format. I woulden't want to have to download some player to play the film when I'm already sucking up all my bandwidth to try and get it in the first place!

2.) I don't want to pay each time I want to watch the movie, I want to pay once and be able to show my friends without having to show them my cc number. It should work the same way that VHS tapes work. You buy once for $15 and watch as much as you can possibly stand.

    Just my thoughts

  3. Re:Corel Tries Hard on Corel Buys MetaCreations' Graphical Tools · · Score: 1

I think one reason that Corel is moving away from Microsoft dependant products is because Word Perfect was so hard to develop on Windows in the first place. Not that C syntax changes extreme amounts from one OS to another, its because of Microsoft's monopolstic practices. Why go though all the struggle of developing on a platform thats so elitest?

Anyway, I think its a wonderful thing that Corel is giving Linux so much attention. I know that seeing a big company like that putting their time and effort into an upstart FREE OS like Linux makes them want to invest in Redhat, VA linux, etc. If I were an investor and didn't know computers very well, it would make me want to invest.

At our county's library system, we JUST got computer that run Windows 95 (ick) so that they (library admistration) can access their new book cataloging system called Polaris. Interesting thing is that the system is a web based one with javascript and all sorts of things. No filtering system yet, though so some kid is probally gonna come in there and look up some porn. Interesting how this sort of thing works. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
