    Human rights are not the same thing as what you dub "citizens' rights," though they
    certainly overlap to a great degree. I think that if you asked most Americans about
    human rights they'd list the most basic things like genocide, slavery, etc. Not freedom
    of the press, though this is also on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; which
    the US did ratify. Also note that our Bill of Rights (which is what we call it, not
    "citizens' rights") recognizes things beyond human rights principles e.g; right to
    bear arms or separation of church and state. Surely you don't expect that an aribtrary
    visitor be granted the former? Finally, as I read Bouvier's Law Dictionary and the
    UDHR habeas corpus is also above and beyond those rights affirmed in the latter, and
    a functional element of a particular form of judicial system.

    I sincerely doubt anybody will truly be thrown off by the color, but IS&T has a long
    history of grossly underestimating their users. It's been over a decade since DPMS
    was conceived, but the Athena boxen (run by IS&T) don't use it or any other kind of
    power saving; for fear that someone will sit down in front of a machine with a black
    screen and be so stunned and bewildered that they'll come running and screaming and
    bother the sysadmins.

    As for dealing with the bone-headed keyboard layout propagated by MS/laptop makers,
    it runs afoul of muscle memory. 'tis no different than all the extra typos/time
    lost due to switching between board with different pipe/backspace placements.

    Umm, Belgium actually has the larger vested interest. Belgium and Luxembourg can
    arguably seen as a single country; although most Luxembourgers would be loathe to
    admit it. Predating the E.U. (and a predecessor thereof) are the various BeNeLux
    (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg) alliances. Belgium is a kingdom, and Luxembourg
    a dukedom that used the same currency longe before the euro was instated.

    First, Jscript ne JavaScript
    Second, if you're unlucky enough to be using IE you do have alternatives: VBScript and,
    if you have installed ActiveState, PerlScript (not that I recommend enabling a browser
    with such power). I also seem to recall a Tcl plug-in back in the day.

    Nevertheless, JavaScript is the de fact standard and so everybody uses it, to minimize
    the potential for "foo only" websites.

    There's also Microcenter which is not as good as Fry's, and has increased in suckitude
    over the last few years, but is still much better than Circuit City or Best Buy.

    Depends on the culture, photo booths are prevalent in France (think plot of Amelie).
    They're at many malls and train/subway stations. They seem to be the standard format
    for (self-supplied!) pictures for IDs.

    What the hell are you smoking? Anyone in their right mind is pro-space colonization.
    Not only are we fouling our own nest, but all sorts of of natural bad things happen
    all the time. The surest way to ensure the continuation of the planet's/universe's
    only known sentient being (and other lifeforms) is not to keep them all in one
    gravity well. So what if we have to pay a fair price for lunar materials? At least
    they're not coming out of strip mines here. More likely though, is that we'd import
    finished goods that could not be manufactured here (as easily); free vacuum and low
    gee make metal processing fun.

    This thing didn't work that well in Firefox either. And there's no need to quote
    "improve performance", they really did need to improve it. I happened to hit the
    site yesterday for directions and it was dog slow for no improvement in usability
    (just aesthetics). Worse, they were using an invalid Google Maps API key from the
    test server in production.

    c) How does it put anybody at a disadvantage? A state ID is issued by the DMV and
          looks almost exactly the same. So where's the problem? Everyone asks to see some
          ID, not adriver's license (except for a cop who's pulled you over). Hell, kids
          often get state ID's...

          There's no "finally" or SSN to it.

    substances. You also forgot that murder and rape are human behaviors too. Can't

    No we don't. The SSN is a unique identifer, which is a far cry from a valid form
    of identification. And you're an idiot for giving your SSN to anyone outside of
    the government or financial industries (where it is reasonably required).

    a) we have IDs already, just a not national behemoth.
    b) SSN has nothing to do with anything, they mentioned needing a Real ID to access the
          service but not conflating Real ID with SSN. I'm sure Social Security currently
          requires the use of your state ID (typically a driver's license) because an SS card
          is never supposed to be used as an ID (although many try to request access to it as
          such).
    c) this is all standard information on driver's license/state ID (along with height,
          gender and often hair and eye color)

    Even you're even a minor trek fan and enjoy/can tolerate house I recommend tracking
    down some Star Pilot on Channel K (S.P.O.C.K), a nifty little Sci-Fi Swedish band.
    "Never Trust a Klingon" and "The Trouble with Tribbles" are especially good.

    Yes, and ANSI. IETF/W3C were mentioned because of the JavaScript crossover.

    Of course there's also IEEE, which largely concerns itself with hardware (e.g; Firewire)

    In summary, it's all a big mess.
