this definently isnt a first size wise, but power wise maybe. stanford have had the worlds smallest web server for quite a while now although it is a measly 44Mhz, but it runs linux! (of course!)

are you suggesting that all tecno-geeks and related sorts are incapable of getting a root (no, not on a system guys, but im sure you're all 31337 h4x0r5)? one only needs to go here to see that ppl in the online community are capable of sexual contact beyond cyber in #beastial_cybersex_with_chicken_bots_and_ppl_who_t hink_their_chickens. and how many ppl have picked up at a lan party? all us geeks get sex! (well almost all, but who the hell is bill gonna pick up on msn with the nick 'micro-soft-guy'?

  3. i'm surprised on Quake As An Architectural Design Tool · · Score: 1

i'm quite surprised that this hasnt been done before, because myself and several friends have been designing our own houses and the like in games since duke3d. actually i still use duke3d's BUILD to do such work as it is much quicker and easier than quakeworld and the like.

the fact that i can run around the house and blow stuff up is pretty kewl as well, not to mention the handy sprites that i think go quite well in my house (fempic1 anyone?;)

  4. But wheres the Unix version? on Yahoo releases their Messenger for Linux/FreeBSD · · Score: 1

The site has Messenger [that M-e-s-s-e-n-g-e-r for you /. grammarians (i bet i'll make a grammar or spelling mistake now)] for Linux and BSD, but the title says for Unix. I didn't see any versions for Unix anywhere. If they make a mistake like that how do we know that the versions they have arnt for plan9 or os2? :-P

  5. GUI's, giving big weapons to little guys? on Making Linux Beautiful · · Score: 1

Ok, I'll make this short and simple. GUI's give stupid people power that they have not earnt and have no knowledge of. I can't recall the amount of times I've been in #linux and had some newbie ask me a stupid question and when I tell him to enter a command into the console, they reply with "Whats a console?". Yes, there is many, many people using Linux who not only have never used the console, they don't even know that it ever existed! These people are using an extremely complicated and powerfull operating system, yet they probably don't even know how to use DOS. To me, this is the same as giving someone a big, red button that can unleash all of the USA's nuclear arsenal on the world with a single button push. People continue to push Linux as the next desktop OS, yet this may not be so wise. Maybe a new kernel should be produced primarily for desktop users, something that your slightly moronic user could use, without being given too much control over the system they know very little about...
