Maybe it's better in vista, but in xp for my Logitech Illuminated keyboard I needed to install setpoint for the sound volume controls, search shortcut, media controls and a bunch of other things I don't use to work.
This is also true for my mouse's 6th and 7th buttons and to be able to rebind those buttons so that they're actually useful.
