So I own two of the laptops listed. They both originally came with Win7. I've rebuilt them clean with Win10 which installed a Synaptics driver on its own which is a waay newer version than what HP originally shipped or any updates they previously provided for Win7. Does anyone know if there's a test to see if the version you have is affected? Now HPs offering a softpaq with a new driver. If I install that one is Windows Update going to clobber it when the next one comes out? Will the Windows Update versions include the 'fix'?
I have a tablet with "Windows 8.1 with Bing SKU". It runs legacy Win32 programs just fine. This does not appear to be anything like that except for being free/cheap to bundle.
I will agree with the Cadillac taillight issue. It doesn't give me a headache, but it does have a Persistence of Vision effect which disorients me. As the vehicle moves either subtly in it's lane, or changes lanes, it leaves a trail of ghost images which occupy a significant part of my field of vision. It's a good thing these are (for now) in the minority. I don't understand how these could have been approved from a safety perspective.
I'm using the free Classic Shell (http://www.classicshell.net/) in Windows 8. I haven't had any problems other than the occasional half second delay. Heck, I get longer delays than that sometimes with the native Start menu on XP and Win7.
It didn't work on my Motorola Atrix phone. Google play says "Your device isn't compatible with this version. I'm going to try side-loading it tonight as others have successfully done.
Sacrificing karma here but I must object: The ribbon in MS Office IS worse. And I'm not reading this in Chrome, but in FF where the non-menu menu somehow doesn't terminally hide the most used functions.
Windows 8 looks nice though.
I got the impression that "Submitter posting as AC" was an imposter trying to stir the pot by making the actual AC sound way more Russell Crowe than he actually is. Heck, he posted other comments/replies using his login.
Well I can't speak for the Catholic board, but my kids are in the York Region Public board (Nothern next-door neighbours to these folks), and our school is introducing iPads into the classrooms. AFAIK there is no (at least not without jailbreaking) wired network solution for these devices. This seems like a very good reason.
True, but for the end-user, for now, isn't the effect of stripping the encryption very close to actually decrypting it? I still get an unencrypted analogue signal that I can connect to either a display or capture device. Perhaps it will not work for every title, but without such a device no titles can be displayed from an HDMI port to an analogue device. Some BluRay players have both HDMI and component outputs but cripple the resolution to component. I'm thinking for example of my 57" Sony HDTV with only composite/svideo and component inputs (not even DVI or VGA). An upconverting DVD or BluRay player will only output 480p over analogue while my device is capable of 1080i.
From the link: "As already noted earlier, there is no way a non-compliant HDCP device can become compliant. This means that there is no way you can use some ‘magical’ HDCP converter. (Except HDfury !)"
This guy's been selling a variety of products to allow your old component or VGA only devices play from HDMI sources.

Some models are around $250
Like other posters I have trouble both comprehending a lecture and taking notes simultaneously. To work around this I make MP3 recordings on my cell phone. I can store hundreds of hours of quite high quality audio using only a small percentage of my micro SD card space. Then if necessary, I can scan through it at 1.5x speed and pick up whatever I may have missed the first time around.
As far as tablets go, capacitive screens aren't that great to write on if you want fine control. There are plenty of low end Android tablets with resistive screens which work just fine with a stylus. Again, the experience may leave you disappointed. I prefer to just write whatever I need in a coil notebook and then take snapshots of the pages to store on my phone or laptop for later reference.
Um. My HTC Vogue with WM6.1 multitasks quite nicely. I can easily run half a dozen different applications concurrently, and yes, music does continue to play either from local storage or 3G streamed while another application is in the foreground. Personally I found Android Froyo on the same device to be quite frustrating from a multitasking perspective. Perhaps that was because of the implementation on a device with such low RAM available.
I just tried it on Windows Server 2008 R2 and it installed and is running apparently fine, even after a reboot. With MSE v1 it would give up on a WGA error (IIRC) but this one seems quite happy to run.
Hmm,
My HTC Touch works just fine using my fingers. Sure the original WinMo 6.0 is not finger friendly but it becomes clear when you flash it with Android http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712310m or install a later version of TouchFlo 2D, that the resistive nature of the screen is not an issue.
Plus, I still have the option of using a stylus if I want to. Really, if you want a tiny form factor device with the ability to pick out small things during an RDP session a stylus can come in handy (although it does make me feel a little embarrassed - sort of like having to put on reading glasses in front of your younger coworkers).
Well, someone should test the vehicles which have crashed and look for evidence of this condition.
There's also far more outrageous but simpler explanation that for the people who legitimately experienced this problem they failed to attempt to engage neutral.
Then there's the other group. Keep in mind (like with the Audi situation way back when) folks who have crashed their cars into whatever (including their own kids) and are facing large fines/jailtime/insurance hikes/suspended licenses, etc. sometimes will jump onto the me-too bandwagon when they think they can deflect the blame to someone else. It's awfully tempting.
Why are you bring Audi into this? The submitter mentions Audi only in reference to unintended acceleration cases of the past. If you read the link in the summary you will see that there was no defect found in the Audi cases. There was however plenty of fraud committed by CBS (60 minutes) and others to tarnish Audi's name.
I'll consider myself fortunate that I couldn't afford anything better than a piece of shit when I first started driving. You quickly learn how to handle situations where the engine stalls at any speed (76 Volare), or the clutch cable breaks (79 Colt), or the throttle freezes wide open (90 Jetta), or you lose the accessory belt.
Although many people panic there is no reason to. Power steering and power brakes are power *ASSIST*. They still work whether there is power or not. Depending on the design you will get more or less reserve assist on the brakes, but certainly enough to stop the car easily if you don't panic and pump them. Even after that they will still work but with greater effort required.
If the car is accelerating independently of the pedal and you don't feel comfortable shutting the engine off then by all means, put it in neutral. Depending on the vehicle you might blow the engine, but hey, it's better than killing someone.

Operating System: Genuine Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3); Windows Vista (Gold, Service Pack 1, or Service Pack 2); Windows 7.
Restrictions. 1. The software may not be used on a device running an enterprise version of a Microsoft Windows operating system.

It didn't survive this. But then again few things do. :-)
