This is pure anti-competitive behaviour, pure and simple. They were able to get away with this before when they were too insignificant to be worth bothering with. Apple is now a serious player and shouldn't be allowed to get away with these shenanigans anymore.
It's not just the financial aspects. Apple is hampering the whole experience for competitors. For example, Apple Music has Siri integration. Spotify doesn't, and it probably never will without outside intervention.
Apple is doing everything they can t make the playing field as uneven as they can for competitors.
This is why telecom companies install towers and then leave them unplugged for a month or so.

Hell, there are literally entire languages out there (eg: TypeScript) that exist for no other reason than to provide a layer of stability to Javascript. Remember, Javascript was never designed or intended to reach the point it has. It was supposed to be a minor glue language, confined to minor DOM operations within the browser. Now people are using it to do every damn thing under the sun, including drive server code.

The real problem, and this is a problem that many newly created languages and systems have decided to happily and neglegently copy, is the fact that Java was the first language to merge it's grammar and it's libraries under a single banner.
It was an idiotic idea then, and it's an idiotic idea now. Because of this one core terrible decision, backwards compatibility is now a nightmare for literally anything that follows this ridiculous paradigm.
With C/C++, there is the core language. Because of that modularity, each can be updated independently of the other unless the core language introduces a breaking change.
