mmmmmm .... robotics technology with fluid, human-like motion ; )

  2. Open Source on IBM Won't Support FreeBSD On ThinkPads · · Score: 1

The only reason they supported linux is to take business out of Sun who is selling their OS. Although, I am not quite sure why they spent all the money on StarOffice, but that was nice of them.

But the bottom line is, linux is not a desktop OS. And altering their hardware to suit it, would cost more than the profit it would generate. At least in this case.

  3. Re: Marx on IBM Appoints Chief Privacy Officer · · Score: 1

I finally realized why Marxism will not work. "From each to his ability, To each for his needs" Duh, there are so many stupid people that the ability of the few will be stretched quite thin.

  4. UK liberties site on Yahoo Offering Encrypted Email · · Score: 1

Well, I am not sure how much I want to trust the UK site either. Its a nice sentiment on their part. But with UK laws is that really wise? Last I recall, UK government had the right to shut down your website because of a complaint. And if you refused to give up the keys, you could go to jail for up to two years.

  5. DMCA to cover my ass on EFF Makes Call For DMCA Help · · Score: 1

Wait, can I make DMCA work for me? Suppose I write a letter to my terrorist friend saying that I will kill the president and how I will do it. And I ROT13 it. Does that mean that if this letter is found it can not possibly be used in court against me because reading it would violate my copyright on it?

  6. Inconsitances on Massive DDoS Attack Brewing? · · Score: 1

Maybe somebody can help me with this. I have been hearing it a lot from the media, but can find no technical basis for this. How does having Cable or DSL make you more volnurable? I mean there is always users shareing their hard drives, but that is just the same on the modems.

And a little note of caution ... the article mentions 'special software' that needs to be used to make your Cable modem secure. I am wondering if somebody is going to paddle something like Cybersister or some other senserware that (now possible that will filter out napster as well) under this excuse.

And one more thing ... how cold they possible know the 'handles' of the the people who probed them ?! This is CNN trying to get better rateings. "Hackers gathering their armies" to strike when you sleep. UGH ...

  7. why not just have computers do it ? on A Common (Internet-Based) Language? · · Score: 1

English is already the language of buisness between US,Europe, China etc ... But I don't think that is good enough. The whole point of language of the world is that you can listen to Joe Shmoe in Swisserland who didn't ever bother learning English. You have to admit. In most of the countries, it is only the buisness eleet that speaks english.

Creating a new language is out of the question. Much easier to just learn english.

But lets not forget about translation services. As far as I know there is aleady technology in work to do real time translation between two parties on a phone line. And Altavista or something like that is bound to get better.

Maybe in the future we will all be tought the same language, but for the next 30 years it lickly to be translators : ) And as they get better you would not even know that the person is speaking a different language.
