On some topics, like social security, then yes I do feel they are left wing. However, I am not a fan of Bill O'Reilly and his ilk, so I do agree with some of their politics. Like I said, though, I mainly go there to get video clips and to stay current on current news and scandals (in addition to Google News and Findory). Of course, I do realize that by only presenting some of the video clips, they are acting as a filter.

Well, for one, the president is often insulated from the protests. Honestly, look at his "town hall meetings". There are maybe two people in attendance who wouldn't get on their knees right then and there to give Bush a blowjob.

Second, have you seen how horrible a job he is doing? 2/3 of the country disapproves of his job and, as Stephen said, the last 1/3 is backwash anyway. It is our job to call him on his wrong doings and try to get this country back in line.

Exactly. You, sir, understand what is going on.

I think this is Stephen Colbert's Crossfire appearance. Jon Stewart played Crossfire the same way: pointing out all the faults of the people he was with. Stephen Colbert's audience was even more prestigious than Jon Stewart's. I didn't know about this appearance until after it happened (so I download the video last night) and I was amazed that he had the opportunity to chew out the president... right to the presidents face!

Unfortunately, I think some of the humor was lost on people who didn't realize the character Colbert plays. However, I also think he has made a lot of new fans this weekend.

Why do we have to ensure jobs for anyone who is even the most minimally qualified? If a company wants to bring in smart foreign workers, since they are smarter than the folks at home, then more power to them. By propping up poor CS students, we are doing the same thing the RIAA does that we hate so much: getting government legislation to keep around a failing business model/person.

I'm in my second year of a CS degree and I do support immigrants and having offices in other countries. I think Google does it the right way: hiring people in other countries for their remote offices, while at the same time, still hiring lots of Americans as well.

Well, it doesn't matter if sites stay in Freenet, that is a good thing.

It takes a bit of work to insert and maintain a free site. First you design it, and then you have to worry about getting it inserted. Insertion can take a while and isn't guaranteed to work. It helps if you have a node that runs 24/7, but that isn't an option for everyone. It is even worse with a DBR page, because then you have to insert it every day or every week.

The Freenet community is relatively small. Also, the learning curve for publishing is much higher than with the normal internet. This is why their is relatively little new content. Also, there could be a lot more content in Freenet than you realize, but people might not be sharing the keys to it. Right now, most content is found through one of the index pages, but they have to learn about the new content somehow. Frost is fairly active (at least on .7) and I used the Freenet mail server at one point (forget the name), but I don't know the state of it right now (I think it was abandoned at one point).

There is always new content being added, but if you go away for a while, it doesn't take a super long time to read it all. Some of the floggers were fairly active when I last used Freenet regularly. Also, it is popular to mirror internet content like the Diebold files or things from websites that have been taking down.

I've used Freenet off and on for a number of years and I don't see much churn in the number of free sites. The most active free sites tend to be FLOGs (Blogs on Freenet). Many of the sites in Freenet have been there since what seems like the beginning of time. There are new ones added (like someone mentioned the Diebold files), but they tend to not be kiddie porn.

Here's an idea... run a node, access the non-kiddie porn content, post your own content, and use the network. The network is changed by observing it, so by accessing non-kiddie porn, you are encouraging it to be replicated across the network, while also making the kiddie porn hard to find.

Sorry, I find this amusing. I'm no fan of the Dems, but I think they are more forward thinking than the Repubs. A few years ago George W. was saying that we shouldn't conserve because it is against the American way (even though energy will become more scarce and most money spent on energy goes to foreign countries, increasing our trade deficit). Also, Republicans are out of control in their government spending, through pork projects and military budgets. I don't think the Democrats would spend any less, but at least they would raise taxes so we wouldn't be mortgaging our future generations.

Also, with your two word, mutually exclusive descriptions, I don't exist. I am socially liberal but fiscally conservative (unfortunately, something both parties seem to be moving away from). I think we should have small government and not impede people's personal lives. I think there are a lot more libertarians out there than people believe, but since we only have two viable parties (for a number of reasons), most libertarians choose the lesser of two evils. This country desperately needs a 3rd and 4th party, but the institution is keeping them out.
