Is there any reason why phones cannot be dual/trible boot?
Take a phone like the N8,add a good processor and give the choice of Andriod, WP7 and Symbian, and it would be a killer choice
Other than the added effort of driver development, what would be the difficulty with it?
are they a ripoff??
In India, calls make from cell phones cost between Rs 1.5 - Rs 0.3 per minute, and a message costs Rs 0.01
And these are the 3G rates, 2G is cheaper
(for conversion , 1USD = Rs 45 approx)
You can buy a cellphone starting at Rs 800-1000(unlocked) and Android based smartphones from Rs 6600 onwards
With US,etc having much higher cellphone penetration, I would assume that the rates are much lower there.
Since you still need to take control of the car off the highway, I guess the licence requirements will be the same. And, is it more comfortable to sit in a car for 1000km, or in a train/plane where you can walk around/strech/etc..
For facebook, account security == not losing access to your account. Thats why it asks me to add multiple cell phone numbers,etc.. so that I can recover my password. They would prefer that someone gets access to my account, and then I am able to recover my access to it, rather than I forget my password, and my FB account goes inactive/disabled
the merchant cannot store the password as the password is entered after you are redirected to the issuer banks site..
However your point about weak and remembered or strong and writtendown passwords is very valid
But my credit card number can be used by itself, without any other meaningful authentication, to make purchases. This is what needs to change.
To use a credit card online, you need the CC number, the CVV number, date of expiry and an additional password(VbV/Mastercard securecode) -- 3D secure system
To use it offline, the signature must match and an id proof is needed for transactions of any significant value, so i dont think the CC leaks are too much of an issue..
Title would have been accurate if the computers had fully autonomous AI, and then messed up. as of now, its just the logic they were programmed with that is being executed
theres also the issue of people not having a way to pay even a token amount..
for example, I have no way to purchase anything from outside India online, as I dont have a credit card, so for many things the choice is pirate or dont get it.
Similarly, movies(eg: the Saw series) are often not released here, and TV shows (BBT,etc..) are often many seasons behind here, so torrents it is.
Somewhat like Openid, where all the IP's belonging to a user are linked to a master ID..
To identify a person linked to a particular ip, its respective master ID is used which gives the required information
Each user could be assigned a block of IP addresses, like a persons telephone number
Any devices owned by the user would use those IP addresses..
Quite easy to manage I guess
p.s. why is the comment entry window so narrow? More breakage - Slashdot was more usable in 1998 than it is now, but hey I guess this is progress... bah!
thats because its in idle view
change the url from idle.slashdot.org/...
to
ile.slashdot.org/...
and it will be fine?(u cn put anything instead of ile)
if(professor thinks you have cheated)
result=cheated
As simple as that in many places
you will have to go really high up in the administration to get it reversed(if at all possible)
The burden of proof in the case of faculty vs students is also much much lower..(if its against the student)
And the stakes are the students degree, which is a pretty big thing
it can be seen as paying a false speeding fine to avoid getting your DL cancelled
Soon your logins (unless joined to a domain) will be handled with a.Net passport and your documents will be synced on "the cloud" and if you dont pay for the cloud services, the local copies will become locked and will not be accessible otherwise due to being stored in a encrypted and DRM locked down file that mounts as a filesystem.
the year this happens would be the year of linux on the (home)desktop(simply due to piracy in such a scenario being virtually impossible)
ooooookkkk..
what about symbian(s60),Black Berry,Windows Mobile 6 which were there before iPhone
All iPhone did was dumb down the smartphone so that non "smart" users could use a smart phone
It gave a limited set of smartphone features to the featurephone crowd, and everyone loved it. Now, others are eliminating the features which were already present in the OS to appeal to the masses..

It gets confusing ..
is it

OR
ClamAV for (Windows 3.0)

i had ubuntu give me a

Most of the PC thefts are for resale, and not data

"voluntary botnet"
why does such a thing even exist??
Did voluntary Borg exist?

Someone who uses a pirated antivirus likely has pirated windows as well..
Why not cash?

IMO they are just trying to copy iPhone 1's success(forgetting that was a few years back) for more explaination: http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1864010&cid=34195594
Try using a thinkpad, then try a Latitude or a HP Pavillion, you'll notice the difference

"Successfully cheating is the only part of the curriculum that has any relevance in the real world".
So true...

Perhaps the students admitted to avoid punishments due to them being identified as a falsepositive..
