Very Interesting!!! Seems that this is a free-speech vs terms-of-service vs obligation to enforce terms-of-service (tos). Just because a company has the right to terminate a site because of a tos violation, is it obligated to do so? If it is obligated to do so, doesn't that at least imply that said company would be required to monitor or inspect all sites on at least an occasional basis? Or need they only remove offending sites that are brought to their attention? What standard does a company use to determine if a site is offensive enough to be removed? Quite a can-of-worms here.:-)
Masterpieces and other high value items could be shipped to and verified by a trusted 3rd party before being transfered to the buyer. After verification, the money would be released from the holding account to the auction house.
Hmmm, posibility for Picasso's sold on E-Bay. Seriously this could have potential with DSL and VPN. Bids could be verified by digital signatures, and paid for by electronic transfers. Potential for more bidders and higher prices for rarities! Serious bidders could establish holding accounts and have them verified before bidding starts.
Seems to me if someone didn't want search engines to access their photographs and written works they wouldn't put them on the site, merely a reference on the web page. They could encrypt the photos, written works, etc and only give keys to registered guests. Or they could do what some musicians on MP3.com do, put examples on the site for free download to review to generate interest in purchasing the complete work. They should be intelligent enough to understand that works on websites will be copied whether they approve or not. Give me a break, if you don't want it copied, don't put it on a website!
Number one the Earth is not 13 billion years old. To find out how it got 13 billion lightyears away from the Quasar, perform the following experiment. Move an object, say a lamp, from another room in your house or apartment to the livingroom and place the object 6 feet away from another object, a chair perhaps. With me so far, the livingroom now represents the universe. Yesterday the lamp was how far from the chair? It wasn't even in the room. The earth when it was formed was already billions of light years from the Quasar. Creation and destruction are continually taking place. Stars and planets are being newly formed, galaxies are colliding, etc. Hope this helps:-)
If the universe started with a Big Bang and continued to expand at the speed of light and that this ocurred some 14 to 15 billion years ago, it then follows that the universe is a sphere 28 to 30 billion lightyears in diameter. Matter traveled from a single point in ALL ditections. Remember also that the light from the Quasar is 13 Billion light years distant and was observed with a telescope that closes the distance between the light and us. Also note that the earth is not as old as the universe, planets and stars are constantly beeing created and destroyed, the total amount of matter should remain constant however. Earth is merely 13 billion lightyears from the source that is traveling away from us. Have a good day:-)
What they forgot to mention was that the NSA arranged to fake Elvis Presley's death. They rushed Elvis to Area 51 where Elvis used his telepathic powers to communicate with the alien held there. The alien was a star spagetti coder on the planet it came from. Elvis relayed the information to Microsoft, of course there were Many Snafus in the translation; anyway that's how Microsoft got the code for its OS;-) Lighten up and have a good day everyone:-)
I don't know if the rumors are true or not, but it probably wont make a big difference either way. Most businesses that use Linux wouldn't have much interest in Sony's kid games; afterall businesses use productivity apps like 'Doom' and 'Quake':-)
I agree that M$ would probably Open Source Win9x and keep Win2000 to itself. After all the desktop is where they have the monopoly. Besides 32bit computing has a short life expectancy with the introduction of Intel's Itanium chip. Interestingly M$ has no 64bit OS, not even an alpha version, but expects to have one in time for the Itanium introduction. Perhaps M$ is going to save developer costs by porting to Linux 64bit. It would explain the Linux programers at M$. By open sourcing Win9x M$ can abandon it to the Windows programing community to improve and debug. It can still assure itself of profits by selling apps, specifically Office products. M$ Office is the defacto standard in the business world. File compatibility between 32 and 64bit MS Office apps shouldn't be a problem for M$. Please note that M$ will only Open source if it has to and it is in the best interests of M$.
Is she trying to get a patent because she is a person with character? Or because as a person she is quite a character?

... and the 4 CPU model comes with a coffeemaker and hot water dispenser for Ramen noodles. Hackers world over will love this :-)

Do you know if anyone has used the observations of the 'most distant objects observed' to triangulate the x/y/z coordinates of our solar system?
