  1. Re:Pandora trying to move radio to their side? on Pandora Wants Radio Stations To Pay For Music, Too · · Score: 1

oh you infidel :P Nah but seriously... and this I say as a musician... we need the radio to survive. The radio makes us 'famous'. And it doesn't matter if your a indy-band or Britney Spears, if the radio and MTV ignore, you really have a problem.

  2. When i was younger on Pandora Wants Radio Stations To Pay For Music, Too · · Score: 3, Interesting

They paid radio to play your song, so people would actually hear it and buy it... As a matter of fact, with one of my current bands, we still do that. Not in money, but by calling them every day and get a live performance on the radio... It's for them great to have live music and it's great for us to have an wider audience. A well, I must be getting old.

  3. Steamengines on EU Publishers Want a Law To Control Online News · · Score: 1

I make steamengines and I did not believe in the combustionengine. Please make it a crime to own a combustion-engine. That is what these people want. Nothing more, nothing less.

  4. Re:Hm... on Swearing Provides Pain Relief, Say Scientists · · Score: 1

I would think of it as what in martial arts people call chi... Or when you're getting that really hot stove out of the oven and you exhale, slowly, controlled, so it hurts less. I can imagine that swearing exhales your lungs in precisely the same way as 'chi' and I know for a fact (my hobby is Sanda/Sanshou) that this does let you control pain. Not in a Rambo kind of way, but nevertheless still very noticable.

  5. I really ask myself on French "3 Strikes" Law Returns, In Slightly Altered Form · · Score: 1

How much do these top guys get payed for this, by whom... This has noting to do with fair businesses or upholding the law... This has everything to do with same very rich influencial people who can buy everything. Even a profit on a lousy businessmodel. It's the same as me, making steamengines and getting a hefy reward for every combustion engine that is being sold. Those combustion engines are stealing money away from the steamengine afterall... When will people finally stand up to this abuse? (everything is so clear after a good bottle of whiskey, I can recommend it to anyone here)

They did provide that data for years... You could look at the old data to understand the system. Still wouldn't do you any good though. There is a sat system that can detect big sources of energy. Nothing secret about it. This only proves that it's about bloody time that China or the EU puts some sats of her own in the skies. Before we know it GPS coordinates will be a national secret to the US also.

Not sarcastic at all. It is a rough subject where different people have different views, and the discussion is enjoyable indeed. And I really understand your point of view. It's just that I am lucky enough to be able to get a decent sandwich with my hobby. But I also remember the days when I went to a gig, got 25 bucks and 3 free beer and had to pay the taxi 40 bucks and pay for the other 27 beers out of my own pocket :D It was worth it, just for the 30 minutes of fame on that stage, in that time :D However I totally agree that when people stop listening to your music but start selling it.. with the sole intend to make a profit out of my hard work... well I wouldn't be to pleased about that. So in the end I think we sort of agree :)

I can see where you're coming from, but in the end, don't you just want to be listened to? Sure, we don't give away free cd's and shirts at gigs, but if people want to copy them... If it weren't for ripping those old tapes I probably wouldn't know half what I do know about making music. Offcourse it would be great if we all could be U2, but for me, music is my life, my love. I like to share that. Don't have to get rich. Being able to make a living out of it is a gift as it is.

  11. Re:Short lived ruling? on Downloading Copyrighted Material Legal In Spain · · Score: 5, Insightful

Well I happen to be such a musician and in the real world it doesn't work like that. I started with the guitar at age 6... I'm 30 now and still learning. Along the way I picked up other instruments like bass and piano and even the trumpet are no secrets to me anymore. I have been in about 17 bands thru the years and reality is, when I write a good song, I want to perform it. And no mp3 can replace the good feeling the people have when they see the guys and me performing. And that is where a little money comes from. Ticket sales. My songs? Please, download them, give them to your friends. And when you see a poster hanging in your town with my bandname on it. Buy a ticket and come see us perform. You'll have a great night. And we will have a little cash to do what we really want to do. Just play.

I agree, it doesn't makes sense at all. This is what good lobbying can do for an industrie. Most of the dvd's and cd's I buy I happen to fill with the music I make with my band... Even weirder it gets when you take into account that I am effectivily paying myself that way but despite numerous letters I still have to recieve my part of the fair-use money.

  13. Re:nice! on Downloading Copyrighted Material Legal In Spain · · Score: 1

Well I was joking indeed, I'm not from the US but from the Northpole, eh Netherlands. We have the same rules here. It is approved to have intercourse with an 16 year old (allthough you can't take pictures, that would be the making of childpornography (weird isn't?)) but if someone from the Netherlands would have sex with someone below the age of 16 in another country he/she can be brought to justice in the Netherlands. Personally, I think that's a good thing.

  14. Re:What isn't copyrighted material? on Downloading Copyrighted Material Legal In Spain · · Score: 4, Informative

There is a thing called fair use. In the Netherlands for example we pay about 24 eurocents on every empty cd or dvd we buy. In return it is legal to download music and movies for personal uses. I can imagine Spain also has this ruling.

Weird. My comment was fair and not a flame... yet now I am banned. Why not just disable comments? All of this combinded is raising the questiong, which former CEO of verisign is now a member of Comcast?

And what's the point in taking someone life's away for a couple of songs. We are outraged when people are trialed for being homosexual in Iran and yet - we the sophisticated Western World will hang you by the balls if you dare to listen to a song before you buy the album.
