  1. The value of free on Linux Is Going Down · · Score: 1

"There really isn't much value in free," said Miller. What a load of crap. Think of value having this relationship: value=quality/price As we all know, the quality of Linux is great but no or minimal price. Windows has a much smaller quality and with a much higher price. You could even think of the value of Linux approaching infinity if you got your distro free.

  2. If implemented right, this does work on Grade School And High School, School Free · · Score: 1

For a kid who has had problems going to a traditional school environment, the online school is an excellent way to stimulate his/her interest in learning and confidence in their selves. My younger brother had school problems at the traditional high school, so my parents put him in an online school. He goes to "class" online at set times each day, where he interacts in real time (teleconference style) with teachers and students. The teachers uses a virtual chalkboard which is displayed on the screen. Moreover, the students cannot distract each other, so a student can concentrate more on the teacher. Another plus is that fact that parents can sit in with their child in their classes, therefore making the parents more involved in the learning process. That is always a problem in traditional schools.

As for those of you cry that someone such as my brother is missing the social, face-to-face interaction, there are ways to compensate for some of that. My brother is allowed to participate in sports at the local high school, he still can go to dances, etc. as well. He obviously still has his friends in our neighborhood as well of course.

The bottom line is that if implemented correctly a online-charter school can be a boom to a kid's self-esteem and confidence in learning. The lessening of pressure on a kid is the key.

  3. In the future.... on FCC Considering 10-Digit Dialing [UPDATED] · · Score: 1

Phones are on the way out people...As one Mr. Cletus the Slacked Jawed Yokel from Springfield would say, instead of using a telephone itself, climb up the telephone pole and just yell real loud to talk the person...."Hay Ma!" errr... "Hay Sis!"

  4. Electronic Voting..A personal experience on eLection '04 · · Score: 1

I myself voted in the Riverside County, ca. electronic election on Nov. 7. Though one may think that voting electronically would eliminate many of the problems (such as the confusion in Palm Beach County, Fl.), a lot of problems still are not eliminated. For example, at my polling place, which happened to be someone's garage, the people running the precinct were total morons. First of all, they decided to leave their large pool table in the middle of polling area, leaving no room to manuver. I could have looked at someone's ballot over their shoulder and vice versa. They were 10 to 15 minutes late in opening the polls (they couldn't plug in the machines correctly), but here's the most disturbing part, they weren't even asking for proof of ID when you signed in. They fucked it up so bad that the people waiting in line were literally laughing. Despite all this, the new touch-screen electronic ballot was easy to navigate, even for the elderly, electronically illiterate. Still, remember this, the bottom line is that even the new electronic voting can't elimate the fact that morons can still be involved in overseeing the voting process.

if napster had ads and paid royalties to the RIAA, they would be selling out. This fight has dragged on too long to make such compromise.
