While I respect John's reviews (and frequent ars), I think he understated the advantage of the speed boost in 10.1. Where my family's G3/450 desktop originally could not run OS X acceptably, as of 10.1 it has become the primary OS. RAM usage in classic has been massively improved (resulting in yet another overall performance boost), everything is quicker, and if you have a Dual 800 it will probably even slice your bread.;)
My uncles who live in Iowa have talked frequently about this sort of thing being done there. However, the companies are using old unused silos and other structures that are already standing to reduce costs and make it easier to get the network up and running more quickly.:)
I'm somewhat confused on this count. Would extending the length of a plane actually prevent a sonic boom? According to Britannica : "If the aircraft is especially long, double sonic booms might be detected, one emanating from the leading edge of the plane and one from the trailing edge."
Has new technology been developed with regards to this?
Agreed, OS X has very few stability problems in most situations (and the ones it had problems in have mostly been ironed out as of 10.0.4). The GUI itself is slow (but useable for most people) and even that is being addressed with the 10.1 update due out in September. So any complaint on those fronts is specious.
If you just want X11 you can even run XFree side by side Aqua and switch between the two on the fly or rootless X and stay entirely within Aqua. Or dualboot Darwin and the linux kernel and have everything you could ever want all on one machine.:)
Offtopic but Paxil might not be a great choice providing the allegations put forth in this case are true. Maybe an SSRI like Prozac or Zoloft would be a better choice.:)
From the article: Opera is slick, but it's page rendering is nothing short of horrendous. Galeon performed well in all tests, and, aesthetics aside, it's a good choice.
I haven't noticed this myself...In my experience Opera has (almost always) been very fast in rendering HTML for viewing. Its only problem is that it waits for images to load before it displays anything past the image tag in question. Perhaps this was why it took so long to load the page in the test.
What all did they use to try to circumvent that problem? Couldn't you radiate the heat in some fashion without too much difficulty? (Obviously there is some problem with what I've just suggested or else it would already be done, I'm just wondering what it is)
Small network DHCP? The University of Texas (a school of 50,000+ students) uses DHCP for its student dorms, which amount to nearly 10,000 students (if I remember correctly). It seems to work fine for them.:)
Try out Opera again (5.12 for windows). It is faster than the old 3.x releases, has mouse gesture support, and a host of other cool features. And once you open it once you should never close it until Windows crashes.;)
Yes, you are technically correct, but H-bombs use the energy from a "dirty" fission reaction to provide enough boost to fuse hydrogen (the "clean" part of the explosion). That is the only purpose. It is the only way to get enough power quickly enough (in a self-contained device) to fuse hydrogen. It's not as if the fact that a fission reaction is used to induce hydrogen fusion makes fission inherently bad.
However, I agree with the assertion that fission power is dangerous. It has been dangerous since its inception and it's doubtful that anything will ever change that. The byproducts it creates are not a problem if handled properly by a large reactor, but the average citizen should never have to come near nuclear waste.:)
ssystem is a cool linux app (using OpenGL) that performs a similar function to this. It isn't 100% accurate, but the planetary locations are within a decent range (like you'd know anyway, hehe).:) Check it out the homepage
I don't know about you, but I find it kinda hard to trust any website named "Girls Life". What girl's life are they talking about? What are they doing with her? Are they going to cut her up for skin to make a girl costume? Maybe the CEO is a real life Buffalo Bill! Stop this company before it is too late!
I, for one, love the payphone. It lets you make that oh-so-important call just after you're released from prison!
"Hi mom, I need a ride home. I just got out of the county lockup!"
"Oh my god honey, why were you there?"
"Drinking and hacking again"
"Oh son...I'm so disappointed..."
Looks like timothy forgot to close his italic command!:) Seeing slashdot in all italics reminds me of my early days learning HTML and how I made all my webpages bold or italic accidentally all the time...
Anybody know how this lawsuit will affect Iomega's financial situation? I know a few years ago at least they couldn't make money for anything despite the popularity of Zip and Jaz...has anything changed? Or are they even further down the tubes now than they were then.:)
If you go to this site and like it please consider donating to Apple-History to help them stay alive. Especially considering what a heavy strain slashdotting the site is going to be on the financial resources of the site owner.:/
Westlake Interactive has announced that all their titles currently under development will have carbon versions (and they will do some carbon versions of older games as well depending on the publisher). Check here for the projects they are working on and here's the announcement from Westlake Interactive about OS X support.
The term "book" was already taken. ;)

+3 insightful? hahaha, Maybe the mods should recognize humor better. :)

Let's see, we have a Firingsquad review...
An AnandTech review.
And let's not forget ExtremeTech's review.
And finally Kyle and the gang at [H]ardOCP did a review.
Incidentally, [H] got their p4 to over 2.2ghz, but ran into heat issues at 2.3.

Damn you literate trolls, I would rest so much easier at night if you didn't speak so eloquently.
Fission power is what fuels the hydrogen bomb
:)

If they're behind, and they try to charge, nobody will use them. The problem *should* fix itself. :)
As a side note, Slashdot is laggin' bad. The trolls reload the front page one too many times?

Maybe we should mod up troll posts to +5, haha, that'd be a funny April Fools! Well, at least funny when compared to the Slashdot postings. :)
