I don't remember. Did the optical mouse first debut as an Apple product?
In the pc world, you have 50 companies all releasing new models every few month, and hardly changing anything.
Well, that's what I like about the P.C. market. You don't have any one organization with a stranglehold on the entire market. Consumer demand drives sales, and what the P.C. consumer market wants is the same old simple beige box with more power. Personally, I'm not any more impressed with a computer because it has translucent plastic casing than one that doesn't. That, and I don't have any O.S. telling me what memory I can and can't use in my P.C.
Let me see... the NASDAQ is tanking again... Nortel Networks lost $19 billion in the last quarter... VA Linux is running out of cash... the entire IT industry is sinking fast (and the rest of the economy is right behind)... and you're worried about players cheating in some juvenile video game?
Yes. This is "News for nerds. Stuff that matters." To nerds. The people who play these "juvenile" games. Who made you the cmdrTaco of Slashdot all of the sudden? Nobody should have to give you the standard go-somewhere-else-if-you-don't-like-it-here speech.
Somebody please moderate that post (and then this one) off-topic.
IT'S OLD!!!! Who the hell cares? When something outlives it's usefulness, you chuck it and get a better one.
Am I the only one who doesn't see anything wrong with that?
I suppose depends on how much you care about the environment. I recycle my bottles and cardboard but if when I have something like a 286 that I don't want anymore, I'll take it out back and smash it with a sledgehammer before throwing it away. I want new technology to replace the old. If someone else takes the clunker and tries to make some use out of it, it's less likely that a new computer will be bought. The more processing power on the planet, the better off distributed computing could be.
I sort of feel the same way about older cars. New cars have better gas mileage (in theory) and every old car that is smashed instead of sold and continued to be driven will mean less pollution. Of course, it doesn't help with the price of transportation....

What would be better is if the internet was set up more like usenet listings. So the company could register "www.microsoft.company" and someone else could register www.microsoft.die.accursed.monopoly.die".
Or something along those lines. The point is that the name would be descriptive of the website.
I don't see much of a lawsuit happening over "www.parody.microsoft".
Many people who buy Mac like the design, the style. If you buy a Sony, Hitchai, et al monitor, it won't match the style of your G4. This is going to be somewhat of a turn off for some people. A few of my Mac using friends are none to pleased with this turn of events.
It would seem that Apple would have been in a better light with these people had they not been so protective of their trademark transparent plastic cases. No third party monitors that match their shiny cube?
Ever play Metroid on a Playstation? Or Gran Turismo on a Dreamcast? Or Sonic on a Nintendo?
Well yeah, actually, that last one. There's a.nes ROM circulating called "Somari" that's essentially Sonic the Hedgehog but with Mario's graphic instead of Sonic.
You need to blame somebody? Blame the school officials who acted so defensive over something so harmless. Who did all they could to punish this kid because of their feelings of insecurity. The same kind of principle that would call the police after a student shows him up, proving him wrong about how easy it is to get marijuana in school. The same kind of people that freak out because a child brought a butter knife to school to cut his sandwich.
This 13 year old should have been commended and asked to help make the schools' security stronger.
I'm quite liberal but I support school vouchers. Schools are businesses. Their top priority is often money. If customers are allowed to go elsewhere, schools will get better.
Secondly, even if your university doesn't support you you should at least fight for what's right. I'm disappointed that the scientists gave up the fight without making more noise. I guess the career means more to them than the truth. Ok, unlike me they're established scientists and "can't afford" to lose their status, but still...
But still what? If they can't afford the social damage, the stress, the time, potentially losing their jobs and especially not the price of the legal battle, what do you reallyexpect them to do?
Why don't you become the martyr you'd like them to be? You consider all of these things to be less important than the truth, right? Crack the same codes on your own and have your results published. All of us here at Slashdot will be singing your praises while you're in court.
The g3, g4 cases, titanium powerbook, macOS X, ibook, optical mice

[On growing humans as energy in The Matrix]
Why bother with humans in the first place then?
Because racks and racks of brainless tissue wouldn't make a very entertaining movie.
It comes too late for Sega. I'd have loved to see some Squaresoft games on the Dreamcast.
*grumble*
Time for a different party?
Indeed it is. I vote Green.
The egg. A really big one.
I thought there was a leaked Microsoft memo where Bill Gates said that FUD wouldn't work against Linux? So why do they keep using it, full force?
To this nerd it matters. Stuff that matters doesn't all have to be about earthshaking life or death things.
Thanks for reiterating my point.

Does it include email? This wasn't included on the K Meleon FAQ page.
I mean a gallon of gas costs less than a gallon of milk that's a bargain.
A gallon of milk costs more than a gallon of gasoline? That's terrible!
Damn Opec. They're probably behind this one, too.

The LZW patent expires this fall. For those who don't know, patents last 17 years, not including the time span the patent is being applied for.

Perhaps the editor forgot to type in "billion"?
I was under the impression that he couldn't get it to run.
Nope...you don't have two necks - but it could be possible to put more than one amulet on at a time
Gosh. People are suggesting the ability to wear 10 rings and several necklaces, the expansion pack gives you even more socketable jewelry...

I agree completely. The space shuttle is a wonderful investment. Will somebody mod that post up, please?
It could just be because firewire is vastly superior technology.
Don't forget that "firewire" is Apple's trademark for IEEE1394. Sony's iLink is practically the same thing.
Hundreds of games available
And zero PS2 consoles available to play them on...
So Microsoft is still going ahead with the name? I thought another company had struck a claim to "X-Box" and taken legal action.
But it's just a battle to 'beat the law'. Everyone knows that people don't practise Jedi as a religion, and that it was merly the name from Star Wars.
Ok, so let's form a church of the Jedi. We can meet once a month and discuss Star Wars, maybe watch a film.
I'll bring Wookie-shaped crackers.
So many posts about blame.
