'I suppose I should take it with me on my flight in the next few days and actually read it.'

Don't bother--Gaiman should stick to what he knows best--writing Sandman.

I wasted EUR 10 on 'American Gods' due to the reviews and the fact that (his) Sandman had me enthralled for years.

Forget it--AG had a couple o' decent characters (e.g., Shadow, the 'hero') but went nowhere w/them. A total waste of my time and money as well as a huge disappointment as it's proved, once again, that people are too easily amused.

I understand that I'm in the minority here--to many, Gaiman /is/ God. But hey--all of you Sandman readers shouldn't expect the same quality just because he's the guy who authored both. However, Terry Pratchett, on the other hand...

So, when will Mayor Rudy G 'wake up' and dismantle (or otherwise constructively use) NYC's bunker/'command center?' What surprised me the most: I had read of plans for his bunker in late 1998, then POOF! Rudy suddenly had it; we first read of this in Fall 99. I'd bet anything that we, the NYC taxpayers, were the fools who paid for it. I 'adore' the fact that there was a news blackout re any building plans, or progress reports on such.

Although I get most of my news from various subscriptions to websites (C-Net [tech news, investing and business], Slate, Feed, Wired and Slashdot), I still read print papers (NY Times on weekends) and magazines ('Brill's Content' and 'The Industry Standard').
Regarding your statement about being unable to write comments in a computer-based format, have you ever tried Third Voice (www.thirdvoice.com)?
No, I don't work there, but it's a way to attach your thoughts to any site in which you may be interested.
