I had bought networkedcomputing.com having planned on using it but didn't get around to it so I posted it to eBay the otherday. Being a common term, it should be worth something to somebody in the computing industry.
That is true, Intel has lots of stuff up its sleaves. Coppermine is nothing compared to what is coming as far as a 7th gen from Intel.
By 7th Gen I am speaking of IA32, not IA64 (aka Merced). I don't remember what it is nicknamed, but this is supposed to be a kickbutt IA32 processor.....probably will be only in Socket 420....since Intel looks to be pushing that new socket soon.
Anyways, if I remember correctly the new IA32 processors have the cache scattered thru out the core and have atleast 3 FP pipelines. Does anyone else have more information on it?
But how the hell does a 200MHz bus help when a) The RAM is running slower b) The system PCI bus is running slower
only external cache would be helped now thats a fucking stupid idea if you ask me its all there for marketting to people who don't bother to ask why something is done that way
It may not be true 1GHz speed, but you forget one thing myfriend. Both processors are NOT running the exact same code at the exact time. What does this mean? It means that you are executing 800MHz (from your example) worth of instructions at once. While your CPUs physically are not that fast, your net performance / instruction execution is. You say FPU performance is a different matter. Duh, if FPU is different, so is Integer and all other operations. Why? Again they are running different sets of instructions at the same time. In fact, 800MHz worth of instructions. So, my point is....Net MHz is what couts....not individual. A single processor system with a 400MHz chip has a net MHz of 400. A dual 504 like mine has a net MHz of 1008. It is always net MHz that determines throughput of instructions. (Besides for wait states and cache misses) Just because net MHz is not common enough for most people to use the term doesn't mean its not what really is there.
Does it mention anywhere there a list of features of the motherboard? Does it mention the chipset? The IDE/ATA speed? PCI and AGP configuration? I find that strange if it was an entire motherboard.
I beleive it will still require a motherboard with an APIC onboard, but then again, I didn't think the signal lines for both processors were on the same connectors. Infact, I kind of doubt there would be, as how would a processor know which one to take. My option is they found a way to fake these signals to the system and have their own method of running SMP....maybe with provided drivers. Then again, I have't seen the product itself, so what does my opinion have to do with anything?

My order was handled well by them, I got my 2x16MB pack within 3 days....unfortunately I was the one who screwed up and within 3 days more I lost one of the cards....so now I have a Rio carrying case that is currently being shipped by FedEx...
I have to admitt I have smacked my Rio around alot. That includes dropping it about 10 times onto concrete from 3 feet in the air. It happens to eject the battery which decreases the amount of mass being decellerated by the impact. If you know anything about physics, you will find it is a good design.
MediaOne not giving you basic cable?

We get all those channels here in Minnesota too. I think the problem lies not with MediaOne, but who they bought. Remember, MediaOne is relatively new and was spun off by US West (I think). US West had bought our local cable company just last year, and our channel selection has stayed very much the same.
Thats not to say they won't globalize selections. MediaOne is spending a hell of a lot of money to update their entire cable network, so I'd expect to see more stations and services soon. Some areas that already have 2-way cable (Unfortunately not here) also have telephone service over broadband for dirt cheap...
I am all for MediaOne, its just too bad Microsoft has a stake in their new owner, I remember how apualled I was when I found Bill was trying to buy MediaOne a while back. I am still upset that my paging service is partially owned by MS so it broadcasts MSNBC news....
Really, stop being a bunch of pathetic whiners... Be is a great company, and makes a great product.
So what if you like Open Source. You know what, many companies can't ship open source software. Why? Our world is ran by money. Try running down to the store to get handed a new computer. Or food, or a new car. It doesn't happen.
Ask yourself why it takes so long for updates to major releases of the Linux kernel. Duh, Linus and everyone else has to pay for the expences of living, meaning, yes, they all have a job they devote most of their lives to.
Not only do developers spend more time on closed source projects, they also assure that everything works together, because they can meet face to face, and plan out what they are doing.
I'm not saying anything is wrong with Linux, but this is the real world, and people need to make a living. Closed source is not the ultimate evil. But open source is also not the ultimate solution to everything.
As far as what i prefer? My company will be announcing our own OS in a few months. The core components will be kept closed (kernel, grapchis), but many parts of the OS will be open sourced (undecided, but probably servers, multimedia, UI).
There are many ways it can be done, and I trust the people in charge of making that decision for what ever group will make it for what best fits what they do.
I think some people should re-evaluate the situation. We are not talking about a bunch of hackers that sit around all night programming for fun, we are talking about people who have to provide for their families, and the only way i ever heard of doing that well is to work.
Open Source would be better if we had a free economy, but until then, business, and personal decisions are based off $$$. Just be happy that the smaller OS makers like Be sell their OS's for a lot less than companies like Microsoft while providing much higher quality.

Or make a HD image with the program Ghost. You still have a copy of the original hard drive, and you can clear the existing when you need to make use of it. Then, when you want to use Windows, swap images with the Linux/Be/What Ever image and it only takes a few minutes.
As long as the software still exists, and you use their net service for 10 hrs a month and you display the ads, you are in good shape.
