isn't this the same discussion as calculators in the classroom? of course, a computer can do so much more of the kid's homework than a calculator can, but that's not the point. so long as computers are used as tools for learning, i say let them play.
Since they said that the Flourinert stuff ran about $1000NZ, I found that it would be about $469.018US ($1NZ = $469.018US ).
so, $1000NZ = $469.018US. okay. but $1NZ = $469.018US???? hence, $1NZ = $1000NZ??? i think i should avoid new zealand. they break the law of arithmetic. we only break the rules of grammar/splleing and such here in the us.
Scientist have discovered the gene which drives people to post erratically on the popular web site slashdot.org. Dubbed the "Troll" gene, it spreads harmful negative karma points among users and general flaming. Dr. Van Gnome stated that the cure is imminent.
it doesn't matter how the software is delivered, only who you can trust. take Micro$oft, they deliver an os environment with undocumented features. how trustworthy is that!?
why not turn an old pc (486 and on) into an mp3 player. you can easily hook it up to a stero via the sound card. and all you need is mpg123 and lots of diskspace.
Improved non-operating shock rating by 50 percent (from 1,000 G to 1,500 G). This is a measure of how rugged the drive is when turned off or not in use.
if you look at the spec page, it states that even when in use it can withstand 175 G. that is rugged. now if Diamond can make use of it in the Rio, i might buy one.
this may sound weird... how about a video/still digital camera that sends the recorded image via rf/microwave/whatever to your laptop computer or special storage device with mounds of disk space. it would be a pain in the ass carrying all the equipment around, but could have gigs of storage. i imagine only pros who need high quality and a ton of storage would be willing to pay for it. just an idea.
"but they could filter their index. If they did this, no one would be able to find them, and therefore no one would be able to 'steal' copyrighted information."
and then the users of napsters would change over to some other means to download the music they want. this is nothing new. so long as there is a way to trade, piracy will always be around and the owners will be scrambling to figure out how to stop the pirates. the cycle of life lives.
"but wouldn't the Linux/UNIX community be better served if these apps ran in any X windows environment?"
but they do run in any window manager. i use olvwm and run some of the kde apps/games. they run fine. and without the "desktop environment" there's less overhead which works much better on slower machines.
maybe it is one of those mind Trojans. they prepare you for an attack, warn you of imminent doom, media alarms the world, there's hysteria, and then nothing happens. kinda like y2k.
so, if i have a sony playstation one hooked up in my conversion van, and some other kid(s) have the same setup, we can deathmatch on our long country ride!!! ah, technology.
these programs that require registration take up the developers time and the company's money. the company believes this is a way to fight against piracy. all it does is annoy people who purchased the program legally and take up unnecessary disk space. plus it is an added piece of code that developers need to test and i'm sure their bosses (or sales people) make that part of the program a priority which takes time away from the integrity of the product itself. the only way to stop this madness is to stop piracy. unfortunately, i don't see this happening. but there must be a better way to authenticate the actual buyer without interrupting their use of the program. any ideas?
I don't think so. I choose whether i want to lease a car or not; I choose to live in an apartment or buy a house; and I choose a job with "job security" or one without.
true, you do make the decision. but what/who is influencing your decision? tv/magazine/www ads, your social group, misinformation from varied sources, etc...
they want us to think that we are calculating a choice by carefully phrasing information packages and the like. what is truth? are we ever handed the absolute truth? is it even possible to have 10% of the truth?
isn't the internet about linking location together? hence the word itself, interconnecting-network. or is some crazy story i read on/. a few months back, "computers unite via wires!"
this is terrible. if some anonymous character can log user activities on napster, scour, whatever services, what is stopping large organizations with plenty of resources (e.g. government) to watch anything they want? all they need to do is listen and log packets. the term "big brother" is really beginning to hit home.
Just recently, parts of a Delta II booster landed in South Africa. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but it does make one wonder what else is up there and what kind of orbits those things are in.
is this the same guy on the tv commerical for yahoo!? you the know one. he logs on, discovers somethings coming, buys a ton of pillows, and BAM! a satellite on the roof of his trailer home. but the dog is alright.

would they use any parts from radio shack?
they shouldn't forget to give radio shack their zip code, phone number, and they probably should join the battery of the month club.

"drink sprite!"
some famous guy convincing me that i shouldn't buy a soda from a liar.

or it could all be a coincidence.

i think i'll patent the letter "A"
that way, i can charge mega bucks for anyone who will use this amazing letter. one penny for an "A"
any takers?
there must be another way to convert micro$oft users to linux than a deadly virus?
it's good to see that more linux games are finally being developed. this game looks pretty sweet... i wonder how it will compare to homeworld??
homeworld rocks! sometimes i just like to look around at all my ships because they are so pretty. i wish sierra would port it linux.
