... I don't see why you think jail isn't a deterrent. Just reading this story makes me never want to even own a green laser.
I agree. If judges start handing out the max five years in jail and $11,000 fine in every case, and publicize this fact, laser attacks will drop off pretty quickly.
It's not a crime where there is some potential "pay-off" if you don't happen to get caught, like bank robbery.
And your attitudes similarly don't prevent me from thinking that you are too afraid of the notion that you might have to be eternally accountable for your beliefs to even consider the possibility that you could be wrong.
I'd guess the guy posting as "Anonymous Coward" is the coward.
If there is an omnipotent god, then he built me in such a way that I don't believe in him. He's accountable for that.
If there is no god, you sure are wasting a lot of your time on this nonsense.
Even the natural world gets things "wrong" sometimes; (e.g.) homosexual behaviour and genocidal behaviour amongst animals other than homo sapiens.
Why do you assume "homosexual behaviour and genocidal behaviour" is 'wrong?' Do you really think some 2000 year old book of fables and fairy-tales is more correct than 3.6 billion years of evolution?
Perhaps these are evolution's best strategy for overpopulation.
Rats spontaneously exhibit homosexual behavior in overcrowded conditions.
Spiders eat their young when food is too scarce to support them.
...my first thought was to hijack the 747 with the shuttle onboard.
That's a much better plan. Hijack it early in the flight. Put up a Lear with avionics spoofing gear to fly along the filed flight path. Turn off avionics on the 747 and fly it up to some remote area of Canada and land it. Lock the crew in a basement with the fembots.
Continue the Lear spoofing the 747 over the Nevada desert somewhere. Once the shuttle is safe in Canada, flip off the Lear spoofing gear, land it and bury it somewhere.
Actually, we are already well along that path. Over 50% of our labor force doesn't do any actual 'work.' By that I mean, they don't physically make a product, they don't grow food, they don't operate equipment.
People will still have jobs. But once machines are doing all the 'work' (i.e. the stuff human would rather not do) more of us will have 'fun' jobs like poet, singer, author, movie director, etc...
Look at YouTube. There are already people making some money just shooting random stuff with their cel cameras.
Look at blogs. There are already people making some money writing about what they had for lunch, or what movie they like.
Sure it has it's medical uses but look at what those uses are: appetite encouragement, "social anxiety relief", pain relief etc... The objective IS to get stoned.
It will be interesting to see how many people need 'medicinal' marijuana, when it is purely medicinal.
"The “highless” marijuana still eases the symptoms of the medical marijuana patients, but it contains less than 1 percent of THC, the chemical that causes pot’s signature euphoric high.
Instead, this new cannabis strain, called Avidekel, is beefed up with 15.8% cannabidiol, or CBD, which has anti-inflammatory benefits but doesn’t bind to the brain’s receptors the way THC does."
Have you ever listened to the guy for any period of time? He's been absolutely spot on about many things.
You're right. He called himself a “...hopeless alcoholic and drug addict.”
"I'm on the verge of moral collapse at any time."
"I’m not good for anything; I just keep hurting people, everybody I meet, everything I touch."
Other, less "spot on" quotes: "When I see a 9/11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh shut up' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining."
"The only [Katrina victims] we're seeing on television are the scumbags."
"So here you have Barack Obama going in and spending the money on embryonic stem cell research.... Eugenics. In case you don't know what Eugenics led us to: the Final Solution. A master race!"
Researcher comes out with yet another bonafide [sic] security flaw on Android, and you make it yet another iHater Apple bash..
Oh. I see. When some Anonymous Coward posts, "Buy an iPhone." in a thread about Android phones, that's OK.
But if we respond to that specific comment with an (obviously) humorous comment about iPhone users taking themselves too seriously; that we're 'Childish.' and we're just (and I quote) "...sticking it to the 'Apple Man.'"
Well, thank you Apple user, for showing us how you, um, don't take yourself too seriously...
How did it work for you? 1080p extracts would be somewhat lower than the recommended resolution for 123D
The final model/output was about the same as using my still camera, but there was the huge 'cost' of doing the frame extraction and conversion.
It was just a test. I was imagining doing "drive-by modeling" with my video car-cam.
I did a model of Vasquez_Rocks with a simple P&S. That really made me appreciate that you it let you model big things that would be impossible without LIDAR.
then handheld lasers need to be outright banned
Perhaps licensing.
Fuck you both. The last thing this country needs is people actively suggesting ways to strip more freedoms away from the people.
Yeah! Like the 245th Amendment says: "...the right of the people to keep and shine high powered lasers at aircraft shall not be infringed."

Oh you mean like attaching a hard-to-deactivate mems accelerometer that shuts off the laser if its inclined to above the level of the horizon?
Until they pull out their not-hard-to-deactivate pocket mirror...

I smoked for over half of my life
Which half?
The first half.
Before he died...

Horrible plan.
First, if you already have a Buran, what would you need the shuttle for?
You're going to put a giant, top-opening cargo hold in a submarine?
And then you're going to bring it to flight-readiness? Couldn't you just buy the Buran and bring that to flight-readiness?

a 3D printer doesn't just do the electronics. and it doesn't assemble multiple components into one.
There are already single printers that do multiple colors and a small variety of similar materials (up to 14 different materials in one run.)
http://www.techhive.com/article/256691/this_3d_printer_can_use_up_to_14_materials_makes_3d_printing_more_awesome.html
And there are singular printers that (each) do different materials (stainless steel, ceramic, rubber, ABS, glass, sandstone, even chocolate!)
It won't be long until there is no 'assembly' phase. The object is just printed out complete. Airbus is already looking into this: "Airbus Explores Building Planes With Giant 3D Printers"

Her comeback to this should be, "I KNOW the difference between fantasy and reality. Apparently, my opponent does not."
"Martin said he was unaware of the state Republican Party’s press release...
"I had no idea that my campaign manager, ahem, PR organization, um, "some group I've never heard of/Republican Party" did this horrible thing."
Being maintained by a guy making $85k a year...
No. He'll be making $8k a year.
His job is to push the big, red button that says, "ACTIVATE REPAIR ROBOT."
As it turns out, the guy making $85k to snap in plastic door panels can be replaced by someone making $10k somewhere else.
...until the $10k guy is replaced by a robot running on $13/year of electricity.
...a franchise factory will build your item. to designer specs, and with possibly raw materials supplied by the designer.
I believe this could be just a 3D printer.
Her comeback to this should be, "I KNOW the difference between fantasy and reality. Apparently, my opponent does not."

That problem is now solved:
Researchers develop marijuana without the high
It will be interesting to see how many people need 'medicinal' marijuana, when it is purely medicinal.

Better yet, always add a bit to every can of coffee you brew.
...you could call it a "speed bong."
So...it is the coffee that is making me go blind...
All this time, I thought it was the other thing....
...and, for the record...
Never do the other thing with a cup of coffee in your hand.
Just take my word on this one...

With a gun, you can kill a man.
With a pen, our Presidents kills thousands of people.
Clearly the pen is far more dangerous than the Glock.
With a gun, you can kill a man.
With a pen, our Presidents can order other people, to kills thousands of people with guns.
Most of the thousands are killed with bombs and missiles !guns.
...so can we agree that in order of danger, it goes:
bombs and missiles
gun
pen
Glock
With a gun, you can kill a man.
With a pen, our Presidents can order other people, to kills thousands of people with guns.
