When porting a game to PC, there are certain elements you just have to redesign.
I agree - the biggest of which is obviously Input!
And thats what bugs me the most these days, because with most object oriented programming, these are easily interchangeable!
Setting up a rebindable control scheme is as easy as making a 2D Array - First indexes are all your function keys available for pressing, second indexes are all your functions. You produce a single screen that lets you assign keybindings, this is not anything new - they've been doing it since the 90's. Honestly it takes less than a day to draft it up and implement.
In fact - it's so easy I don't understand why Consoles don't normally do it either. When I load up Halo 3 - they give me like 4 different prebuilt button configurations (regular, Boxer, bumper jumper - whatever). Why can't -I- decide what button is for jump? Either Consoles controls are so incredibly horribly designed that developers can't seem to get around this insight or they have somehow descended into a dark age forgetting good game design.
Anyways, this rant is supposed to be about ports to PC's, not the other way around. Bah - I lost my train of thought. Look what you made me do.
We have pubs in Canada too. We also have bars. And clubs
They are different though. A pub is one of those places you go down to drink and have a good time with your friends. You usually end up buying a big platter of Appetizers, sitting chatting and getting drunk together.
A club is the opposite of a pub, in that you expect to do No sitting whatsoever. You pay a ridiculously high cover charge, have to be dressed nice, and pretty much go there to dance while drinking. There will at most be 5 tables in seperate corners. It really is just a place to dance and have chicks grind up against you.
A Bar is kind of a mix between the two. There will be a venue for a live music group usually - and a small area for dancing should the live band encourage you to do so. Otherwise, there is a seating area for you to drink and listen to music.
Yeah Network Solutions took them down after Young's counter-response. Wikileaks is hosting it now.
Basically the issue is that Microsoft has a handguide to do some pretty questionable stuff (IP Extraction is mentioned). They can keep it protected from being publicly viewable by putting a copyright on it. Young says that Copyright was not meant for hiding secrets. I agree.
I believe that our drive to construct bigger elements helps confirm that our scientific model is correct - and should we discover any discrepancies (like say the UV Catastrophe) than that only helps us understand things better, since we reform our theories to fit the results.
Is that why I can Visit Shanghai and not need to know a word of Chinese? The East has a rather large English speaking population, the language barrier is not as big as it was say 5 years ago.
As for what we'd be losing out on - It's really more complex than just the internet. If we decide to cut of internet ties we're probably cutting off trade as well. And I can't imagine North America functioning well without China's production.
Why would you assume that a Cyber war would consist of conventional "Attacks"?
Of course they aren't going to DDoS, that's something a million Sys admins the world over already deal with every single day of the year.
I think more damage could be done with Rootkits and backdoors than a DDoS ever could. And believe me, the kind that would be employed are not the kind that script kiddies use every friday night. The kind that would be employed would end up being engineered into the hardware, something China regularly produces for us.
Anyone have a link to this patent? The summary fails to accurately describe what it is they patented - though the impression I get is... Practically Everything?
You fail to realize that it is not "one network cable" that connects us to (lets say China). The robustness of the internet means that every route to China must be cut in order to stop the attack.
That means England has to cut their ties with China. And France. And so on and so forth until everyone that North America Can access no longer has access to China. If we leave the pipes open to India, and India is still open to China, thats a route through to the US. Thus we resort to IP Blocking, but then spoofing and Proxies comes into play - making things more complex.
The other solution to stop the attack, is to disconnect all the network cables that access any other country. Leaving you with an internet that spans North America Alone.
Personally, if it ever comes to a cyber war, I think it will boil down into a World War kind of thing. One side will cut ties and allegiances will be made. The West will be on their own private network and the rest of the world on theirs, creating two out of sync "Internets".
I can only imagine you were modded funny because the first sentence is wrong. Or because of that second sentence sounds pretty ridiculous when you say it aloud.
It does. Though you can opt to use the mirror - though they only recommend it if the P2P Services don't work for various reasons.
The slightly disturbing feeling of making a bit of humour out of people dieing really only helps to reinforce your point - which is a good one.
Well played, Sir.

I am shocked. Just shocked.

The more you know!
I think it's pretty sad when you have to resort to Sorcery to sell your products. That should be a crime.
The H in HTTP is actual Hydra.

Looks like something screwy happened and turned all your number values into their ASCII characters.
I really doubt you're only the 78th person to have said that.
What about ununbium?
No, 1 car is 3 passengers, the duo is 6 passengers. Derrrrr
One man's over-blown nonsense hardly worth thinking about is another man's treasure worthy of many hours of reflection.
Perhaps you got lucky and the part where they beat "ThinkGeek shares a corporate overlord with Slashdot" into your head completely missed your skull.
I wonder how long it took them to come up with that one.

I knew we should have installed a factory reset button on the internet.

The world has just become a stranger place for me.
Right. So you visitting a hospital fixes the issue of me stabbing you.
* Side note: Stop putting half a sentence in the damned heading and finish it in the body. It's bloody annoying to quote.
Like to.
By Default, anyways. I don't Have to use HTML if I don't want to. But yeah, BB isn't an option.
