I've always wanted to play with SITs, must be fun. Back in the day (early 80s) I did record a SIT disconnected announcement on a Code-A-Phone as the outgoing message. Only those that knew to wait through two playings could leave a message. But back then I was an evil one making telemarketing machines by gluing C-64s to Code-A-Phones. (Wygant)
That was two King County sheriff's deputies, not SPD. RTFA before you link to it. I will agree that the Transit Police (KCSO) are out of control, as is most of the rest of the KCSO.
No, I agree with you. I think it's _only_ about 10% because they are testing the waters with the new admin. If the new admin doesn't bark then expect the "summer driving season" (WTF is that anyway?) to see a nice 30-70% bump because uh, "Cavitations in the pipe-line are delaying shipments" or something.
Uh, that storm in... no.. not that. Uh, the spring shutdown of the.. no? Ok, to mix metaphors: sticking their toe in the water to see how far they can throw us?
If it wasn't for/. I doubt that I would have come across him, and I read a good amount of SF. SF is about the only fiction genre I read, starting back about 35 years ago with Clarke's _Childhood's End_.
In the last rounds of floods around here (CN88) the county emcommies did a great job of dashboard surveys. As far as large-scale events: earthquakes, use of hams is a large part of the scenario when the county's trunking system goes down. On the Indian rez where I live we're putting a D-Star repeater (73cm) up with full support of the Tribal EOM and PD. We're also working on a HF net between the local tribes to pass health & welfare traffic mostly because everyone is related to everyone.
There is a lot going on these days in some areas but I do agree that the safety-vest gang does need to get training (at least IS-200 if not IS-400, and a CERT class) to know when to keep out of the way.
Egypt began slaughtering the roughly 300,000 pigs in the country Wednesday as a precautionary measure against the spread of swine flu... Agriculture Minister Amin Abaza told reporters that farmers would be allowed to sell the pork meat so there would be no need for compensation.
Yeah, what's the price of pork in a vastly flooded market. Other stories on the subject report riots by the pig farmers and also note that the WHO says that you can't catch it from eating pork. This is more a case of the non-pork eating religious majority using this as an excuse to crap on the pork eating religious minority (and 'unclean' pig farmers.)
At one telco-hotel that I worked at (Westin Bld, Seattle) someone in the parking garage had the plate of UID 0.
Got root?
Three. ECF-986 and XDT-677 aren't so well known.

Choose your business partners wisely.
We're all saying that about Bank of America now.
It's Lynnwood, WA (two Ls). And yes, the cops there are ones you very much want to avoid. Now just to the west, the Edmonds, WA cops are decent.
sorry, forgot to put that :^) emotocon thing on the post.

The sysadmin can. You are the one that logged in, right? You didn't leave your station without logging out, did you? Ergo: you checked the box.

Don't go overboard with the analogies. Try to keep an even keel here.
No, it's because the wife and kids are at home. Mr Bigshot likely isn't the big-shot at home.

Well there goes Norm Colman's "Donate" button on his website!
My first mobile phone had a rotary dial and a tube final. But it also put out 25 watts on VHF.

"I agree with your premise, but the banking deregulation that (at least partially) led to the current situation was done under Clinton."
And Gingrich.
