It would be really sad if being slashdotted costs more than the $13.86 check. I mean, the image of the letter alone is 50k, and it didn't have to be. I hope you have a flat rate, no cap on bandwidth. Course, it's smart to have those Amazon referrer links. Good luck with that. Kind of hypocritical. "Hey, look at my RIAA settlement...now buy some music."(fp)
That's true, but I got pretty freaked out when I thought Guybrush died when he fell off the cliff. Then he bounced back up and said, "Rubber tree." Me and my brother couldn't stop laughing. Then we saved.
A loose analogy would be that I can hold my breath for ten seconds 30 times over the course of a day without any danger, but if I tried to do it all at once the results would probably be pretty harmful.
Pirate #3: Got any skills? Guybrush Threepwood: Well, I can hold my breath for 10 minutes.
Wouldn't this only be a problem if you use these devices every day directly in contact with your skull? I mean, is the range really that far reaching? If the range really is that far reaching, what about power tools and such? Of course, I can think of a few people [McBride] I'd like to have power tools come in direct contact with their skull, but that's beside the point.
Maybe it'll get worse. But I think the people who know where to look for vulnerabilities already have the insight. The people who need to look at the code are probably not as big a threat as the people who don't.
Imagine someone who can just guess where a buffer overrun might be and someone who has to view the source to realize the same thing. Which one is more likely to write a more effective exploit?
The source leak has it's ramifications, but I think those ramifications will manifest as better competition for Microsoft, not better exploits. Imagine how well Samba will integrate now that there's a better reference. Not that I condone that kind of thing, mind you.:-)
Batman: Robin, take out your BatPDA and boot up PocketPC 2003. Robin: Golly gee, Batman, why is everthing BatThis and BatThat? I feel left out. Batman: Ok, boywonder, we'll call it the RobinPDA. Robin: Holy Bitrate, Batman. That sounds stupid. Batman: Ok, then we'll call it the BatPDA. Robin: Golly gee, Batman, why is everthing BatThis and BatThat? I feel left out.
Nothing beats the sleek style of the Apple Titanium PowerBook (old and new). Not even this bucket of bolts, with it's stupid engine sound can change my mind. I'm still not sure I've ever heard a real apple make the sound my TiBook makes when I power it up, but I prefer it none the less.
No, from what I could tell at the time it was an actual malicious DoS directed at the competitor GB fan sites by another GB fan site. I base this on the chatter after the fact on the surviving sites.
It looks like AppleGarage.com just recently began to explain the outage, but they're never coming back.
The absolute best site for GB fans had to have been AppleGarage.com. But it (as well as others) experienced a DoS attack very early on, so I can't take any GB site seriously anymore.
I wonder how well this would work if everyone on Slashdot could warranty their posts. It could be implemented by adding a checkbox next to Post Anonymously, call it Post With Warranty. Your comment then gets bumped up to "+5, via Warranty." If people think it's not worthy of being +5, and they have mod points, they can moderate it down. If they mod it down, they take subscription points from the poster. If the metamoderator disagrees, the moderation is reversed as expected *and* the subscription points are returned to the poster.
I think this could work. But it sounds like a pain to implement.
I'm going to go out of my way to buy Fujitsu when I can. The fact that they can figure out the root cause of a new type of failure so quickly is very impressive. They should be commended.
as'i'nine adj. Utterly stupid or silly: asinine behavior. Of, relating to, or resembling an ass.

Are there lessons here that we can use here on the third rock for recovery of our messed up machines which we manage from afar via ssh?
As a former co-worker (hi, jwalker!) used to say when people tried to draw ridiculous analogies, "It's exactly like that...only different."

Yeah, the nonchalant attitude of Linus' "don't ask don't tell" policy is probably over, then.

One major difference is that the earth's magnetic field doesn't change polarity 60 times a second.
But, you're right. It's probably nothing to worry about.
No, I don't have headphones that tap 110 AC. If you're using headphones like that, you should have your head examined...literally.

To be perfectly technical, Slashdot is no place for your humor attempts, you insensitive clod!
hypervelocity n : excessive velocity; "the meteorites struck the earth with hypervelocity impacts"
Are these rods the size of VWs or something? That's pretty ambitious, if you ask me.

Wow, this sure gives new meaning to the term "vaperware."
You know what they say about American Made (yeah, they just blame the Russians).

I am still surprised no one has started a fork of the Linux kernel from a safe version. Just think, "SCO Free Since '93!"

That's exactly what I was wondering. I was getting. Example:Now it works. Thanks!
