Progamming languages ARE easy to learn/use/figure out if you've had several years training doing it. That is why people go to school for years to become computer scientists. If I'm going to have to start using a new programming language, I want it to be better, not just easier to use/learn/figure out. And just because it makes simple tasks easier, what does it do for more complicated tasks? I haven't fully evaluated this language yet, but just because it looks easy at first glance, doesn't mean that it really is easier in the long run.
Here is something to think about, does the medical field make it easier for non-doctors to start practicing medicine without a degree? Or why don't they make plane cockpits simpler so that it would be easier to use/learn/figure out for a non-pilot? ---
Oh great, they fixed the typo without marking it as an update so now it makes me look like an idiot! Thanks alot guys! (For those of you who missed it, it really did say "is actually replacing" at first.) ---
I was wondering the same thing! I don't have a problem with Slashdot (a product of BSI) making a buck, but by doing so doesn't that mean they are no longer none-profit?!? ---
10-20 hours??? It only takes my machine between 2-3 hours per work unit and that is with an old client, I expect the latest clients have improved slightly in performance. ---
Yes, but the difference is that I can give my ATM card to my wife, or my kids to use and then there is no way for the banks to know who actually used the ATM card. With iris scanning, there is no doubt that it was you and you alone that made the transaction. ---
Ummm, but don't hackers get hungry and need shelter? I see no reason not to use the word "Donation" in this case. Besides, I don't agree with your definition of how the word should be used anyways. If you give money to a cause that you think is worthy of your money then it is a donation. ---
If you read the website that was posted about the details for the robot you will see that it is based on 6 emotions and 4 insticts. Depending on what "mood" it is in determines its behavior. It also mentions that the robot goes through different stages, infancy all the way up to adulthood. Depending on how you treat the robot during these stages determines its "personality". ---
I had an Omnibot when I was a kid. I don't know what model it was though. But mine cost only in the $100 range. This would have been about 10-12 years ago. ---
The difference here is that all the work that SGI does to the kernel has to be made available to the rest of the linux community. 3Dfx wanted help making drivers which they could release as binary only if they wanted to. So the situations are not the same. If you read the job description you will see that the position "includes presentation and promotion of the solutions to be accepted in the open community where necessary." ---
C++ would not help you much for these positions. Plus you would need a strong background in operating system development and experience with multiprocessors. ---
Absolutely NOT! I don't want British spelling in my thesis. I am, after all, an American... even if I do happen to live in Sweden. I don't have anything against British English, but I'd rather stick to my native language instead;o) ---
I'm sorry, but I stopped reading the article after the first few sentences. I can't stand reading published material (even if it is published on the Internet) that is full of typos. (For those of you that are lost, Defence is actually spelled Defense!) How am I supposed to take this article seriously when they can't even spell? I'll admit that I can't spell worth a flip, but that is why I spell check my work and have others read it before I publish anything. Speaking of which, anyone wanna proofread my thesis next week?:o) ---
Well, I wouldn't be so sure that the NT threading support is really that great... I know of several large companies that are currently developing Java apps on NT machines but are planning on actually running the production versions on Solaris because of the problems they have been experiencing with threads under NT. ---
Although I agree that it would be wonderful if both camps were using the same component model. I just wanted to let everyone know that there is actually a lot of cooperation going on these days between the KDE and Gnome developers. In fact, I would like to give a big thanks to Preston Brown at RedHat for helping out in this area. ---
No one has mentioned it because it is probalby one of the worse editors available on the market. The things that it does to your HTML is horrible. The university where I teach used to use it for an introduction course a few years ago... thankfully they came to their senses and now use a plain text editor. ---
I'm a linux user myself, and yes most of the people that frequent Slashdot are also linux users... but Slashdot is not completely linux centric. Get over it, there are other operating systems out there. Luckily we aren't forced to use them. ---
Google is a really great search engine and I now use it for all of my research, but none of the items that were listed are new, they have been on the google site for some time now! ---
That's why you don't keep the key on a computer that is connected to the network... you could keep it on a floppy for example and only insert the floppy when you need the key. ---

Shouldn't that read "isn't actually replacing"?

You must have messed something up because it still shows up fine on my 4.6 version.

It looks like they have removed this link... it now gives a File Not Found error, but did work earlier.

Just for the record, I used 9600 :o)

Ever heard of Bluetooth?
---
I guess this all depends on your definition of "support". There is still a lot of work to be done to get full support fo IPv6!

Looks like Slashdot is on crack or something at the moment!
