IBMs "Clever" Search Engine
Derek Pomery writes
"Scientific American Online has
a new article by an IBM team concerning their new search engine,
named "Clever". Clever is a link based search engine, but the logic is a little different then Google (they compare the two). It'll be interesting to see which is more effective. "
Seems like the http://slashdot.org page was slightly messed up... After clicking on the article it did show the article about IBM's search stuff however.
The post on the main page is blank... bug?
Well, this is weird... When I displayed the main slashdot page, it didn't display right... The table for THIS news clipping was not filled out.
Is this a bug? =) I have kept a capture of the source so maybe it can be tracked down.

So, are there any evaluations as to which search engines work best these days? Perhaps dependent on the topic?

Crazy Chinese Government hackers again?
Is it just me, or has Slashdot not been working properly in the past few hours? This article was blank!
this is really messed up, "IBMs 'Clever' Search Engine" and "MIT Critters" are fucked up, as are everything up til may 10th quickies
Well no matter how clever they cant match googles marketable name...
Sorry for this, but I'm getting REALLY STRANGE output from ./
Is anybody else getting it?
testing..
:/
Yahoo will always be superior. Every other search engines never return what you want.
Yahoo may not have as many sites listed, but you are far more likely to find the contant you requested.
I never use Lycos or Infoseek because they never give me anything except a bunch of useless links. Never tried Google so I wont pass judgement
??
heheh.."posted by on, from the dept." Right. Care to explain? :)
this might be my first first comment.. that's some kinda milestone, isn't it?

Well, I for one found it quite informative... it's a Zen thing.
Absolutely Astounding! I can't believe this is real, can you provide some referances to back up this story?? ;-) Sorry, couldn't help myself
I may really be missing something, perhaps another netscape bug, but, it seems to me that something is _very_ wrong with slashdot on this afternoon...did I just mangage to slide in at a funny time? anyone else?

Are articles today (5/11/1999) showing up wonky, or is that just me?

there's a empty post on the mainpage and below that are yesterdays posts...
Houston, we have a problem.
Blank stories, cached stories... something is not right in slashworld.
This story seems to be broken on the front page. The only way I can get to it is by clicking "Read More". On the front page, it's just a blank story w/o a title, but all the other stories are intact. Weird, huh?
æeee!

Okay, I read the article. But I felt like I missed something importantly. Namely, the search engine itself.
I was reading how they compare it to Google, saying that the Google search is faster. Does that mean that the Clever search engine will yield better results, but takes hell of computational time?
It is going to be a search engine that scales, or is it going to be stuck in 'research mode' until hardware can catch up to the programming?
Now this one is quite good.
uhh... beavis?
